Day 5 of Pre-Op and horrible headaches

I'm on Day 5 of my protein shakes and still have horribe headaches. I expected one the first day or two as I withdrew from my Starbucks latte habit, but didn't think it would last this long.

Any words of advice/widsom from those of you who have gone before?  Apart from the headache, it's going better than I thought. Although my tummy is making a lot more gurgling noises than before, which gets all the students giggling.

My withdrawl from caffeine lasted on and off a couple of weeks: headaches and really tired.  I did that before my liquid diet. The issues I had on the liquid diet was 3 horrible days of carb withdrawals.  All I can say is if the headaches are from caffeine withdrawals, it will go away. If you drank alot of Starbucks, it may take a little longer than some, because they do have alot of caffeine. but once you get adjusted to no caffeine, it really isn't bad. I can get a boost from decaf coffee now. If I go to Starbucks, I get the decaf Skinny Vanilla Latte, and it is great. I'm drinking decaf with protien powder right now, and it gave me a little afternoon lift.  Hang in there.

Caffiene and detoxing from carbs will definitely cause a headache.  You should be on the downside now of the withdrawal if it continues call your surgeon.

Hang in there, Sweetie!!!! I hope you are taking Tylenol type pain relievers and not Ibuprofen. Hopefully this will pass since the protein shake are the main food group for a really long time.

The headaches might actually be from the dramatic calorie reduction.  I drank NOTHING but Diet Coke prior to my surgery and luckily had no caffeine withdrawal symptoms whatsoever.  BUT even now if I don't eat enough, I get terrible headaches.

I started withdrawing from caffeine about 1 month before I started my liquid diet because I remembered how bad it was when I stopped cold turkey when I got pregnant 26 years ago and didn't want to go through caffeine, carb AND food withdrawls all at once!

For those who still have to do their liquid diet, I bought decaf coffee and started mixing it 1/4 decaf 3/4 regular grounds.... and gradually increased the decaf % until it was all decaf.

For the OP - you will just have to tough it out and I hope you get some relief from the headaches soon - you are almost halfway there - YOU CAN DO IT!

Update - Day 6 and I'm headache free! Thanks for the encouragement. I expect Starbucks stock to start dropping now that I'm no longer a daily customer.
