Houston folks....need help with Ortho Dr.
Yesterday my PCP sent me for xray on my knees and hip, finally official diagnosed with osteoarthritis. He's recommended I go to an Orthopedic surgeon for 'intervention'. I call BCBS this morning and have a few names but I know nothing about these folks other than the hospital their are affiliated with and the fact they are all board certified. I'd like to have some personal recommendations from you who have trusted anyone to cut on you!
Thanks!
Thanks!
I'm not sure if he takes BCBS, but he is really good, and a very nice doctor.

KSF Ortopedic. Dr. DEan has worked with my husbands shoulder and my daughter's knee. He was really nice. My husband wa**** head on by a car almost three years ago and he had to learn how to walk, think and talk all over. When he woke up aftr 2 months in ICU. He went to therapy and dr dean was the one that found out that he had a frozen shoulder.
Dee, I saw Dr. Melvyn Harrington at Baylor who is very caring and does research on knee replacements and osteoarthritis. His office is on Dryden and Main in the Medical Center. He's who I will have do my replacements when I get worse. I saw a Dr. at Methodist and was very disappointed he made such an impression I forgot his name. He gave me no hope and did not explain things and was ready to cut the next day. Much different that Dr. Harrington who took the time to explain many things and told me what we could do. Good Luck!

Hi Deedles. I have the best orthropedic surgeon in Texas. I also have oseteoarthritis His name is Dr Sherwin Siff. He is located in the St.Luke Tower on Fannin. He is very thorough. You will like him. I do get cortisone every three months in my knees t helps. This time I'm going almost 5 months. Let me know how you come out
UPDATE....I saw Dr. Kolstad yesterday. After viewing my xrays and twisting me into pretzel shapes his opinion was total knee replacement for both knees! He said cortisone shots were usually his first course of action and that although I would get some relief from the pain, because the arthritis was so severe it would be very temporary. I asked about partial replacements but he said the whole surface area was pretty much gone, there was nothing 'partial' about it. He spent alot of time answering my many questions, showing me exactly what he would do and why along with the options available. Of course each of those options had pros and cons! So basically I'm looking at more surgery for sure, I just have to decide which knee first and when. I want a second opinion before anyone cuts on me and I'm also under a time crunch. I have a dive trip mid-May. If I could get the surgery by the end of the year I could be recovered enough by then. If not, I'll need to just wait until we get back at the end of May.
Thanks everyone for your recommendations, I have a great pool of Drs. for second opinions!
