New to all this...

Hello everyone,
Like the subject line says...I am new to this board. I heard about it from Dee on The Davis Clinic board. My surgery is scheduled for December 21st and I'm very excited. There is not a support group in my area (Bride City, TX) and I was wondering if anyone else stricly uses the boards for their support. I would love to start a support group but not sure to even to that. Any advice or answers would be greatly appreciated!

Can't help you with anything down south but dollar to a dime says you can find a group somewhere. Even where I live, near Cedar Creek Lake, I know enough WLS people we could start our own group here!

ETA: Googled "Bridge City" to see where it is located. You way down there ain't cha?

WELCOME!!! You can contact [email protected] and inquire about how to be a trained OH support group leader. They will give you all the "tools" you need to start a group. In the meantime-and afterward-WE are HERE for you! Readership is normally fairly light on the weekends, so be sure and post often, during the week. Welcome!! What a great Christmas gift to give yourself!! Take listermint breathe strips and slip on houseshoes to the hospital. Make sure there is a pillow in the car to put between you and the seatbelt for the ride home!! I use the boards, Docs support group, a local support and a specialty support group! You cant have too much!

Welcome to the TX OH message board.  Congrats on your surgery.  The Beaumont area used to have some support groups.  You may need to make a separate post with just that in the title.  I know a hospital had one a long time ago.  I don't know if you have to be part of the program there or not.

Liz may know.  She's out of town, but maybe will be back on here sometime this week.

Hey Destiny, I would LOVE to have you for a friend!!!

The support groups in my area all seem to meet on Wednesday evenings - same time I have choir practice at my church.  I've been using the OH board pretty exclusively as my "support group".  I find the smaller forums better for that than the main forum - you get to know the "regulars" a lot easier.  The Texas forum and the Men's forum are my main hangouts, but I also read and post to the RNY forum.
