I Could Use Some Input Please...
Hey y'all!
I thought I was doing really well... I am 18 days post-op and so far so good, but I have only lost 12 pounds since surgery (most of that came in the first 10 days or so). I am worried I won't lose the weight like I am supposed to. I am consuming 3 protein shakes (with milk about 200 calories each) and 1 1/2 cans of Campbell's Chunky soup (pureed because I am still on soft food). All in all it's less than 900 calories per day. Is this normal? Should I be doing something else?

How much water are you getting in? How many grams of protein are you getting in? Most importantly... Have you called your Dr??? Nurse??? They are going to give you the best information and they are (should be) there to help you in this journey.
Congrats on your surgery and blessings on your journey... it's a LONG road... GO FOR IT!!!

The best information I can give you, and I say this with Love and all sincerity.....stay off the damned scale! First, your body has been through the wringer. It's going to take a month or so for it to figure out you aren't trying to kill it and to get on with the program. As long as you follow the program, there's no way that you won't lose weight. Think about it! You're body will HAVE to lose weight with the reduced calories you're giving it. When your weight losses start to slow down, always make sure you're eating enough food. We've all been dieting for so many years, we have this thing in our minds that tells us to just stop eating when we want to lose weight. Hopefully you've learned by now that's the exact thing we do NOT want to do! So always make sure you get enough calories and carbs to keep your body out of starvation mode where it hangs onto everything.
So just have patience....I know, that's hard....and stop comparing yourself and your journey to everyone else.

I gained 27 lbs by the time I went to my first post op doc visit. Granted it was water weight and I know this now, but it was still gain. I very much agree with the stay off the scale thing. The body is getting used to the change and getting over just being cut on. Numbers don't matter yet, nor should they ever. Welcome to the loser's bench!
It's COMPLETELY normal!! I los****er weight immediately after surgery, and then NOTHING for three whole weeks. It just happens. You're not doing anything wrong. And you WILL keep losing. Don't worry about stalls during your first year. They'll happen, and then there will be times when the scale will go down every single day. That's just the way we lose.
If someone had told me to stay off the scale, well, they might as well have told me to chop off my leg or something....either is just as likely. I understand feeling like you need to weigh to see if it's "happening" yet. But, seriously, if you're gonna maintain a long-term relationship with your scale, you're gonna have to take the "ups" and "downs" (pun intended) that come with it....without the drama....or you just might have to consider breaking up.
And I wasn't calling you a drama queen....just trying to be funny.
You're gonna do great!! I know it cause you're here getting support and asking questions.
Congrats!!!!

I think you're doing great with that loss. Just continue to do what your dr. tells you to do. Hang in there!

I checked my records and at 18 days out I had lost a little over 8 pounds. I ended up at 103 total lost. Everybody's journey is different and everybody loses at different rates but the surgery DOES work but it doesn't work overnight.
Relax - you are doing just fine! You have an entire year or two to lose your weight, then the rest of your life to keep it off. You have an exciting year ahead of you as your clothes start hanging on you and you start blowing through sizes - it's a TRIP!
