Liver Specialist in Houston area?
Hello y'all. I am reaching out today to ask for y'alls help. I have a very dear friend of mine who when they did a simple gallbladder removal, found the very beginning stage of cirrohsis of the liver. She is NOT a drinker. I had NO idea u could get THAT w/out being a drinker. Anyways, she is looking for a liver specialist in the Houston area. Do any of my Houston peeps know of any GOOD Dr.s for this? Any help thrown my way would be greatly appreciated.

Did they mention NASH as the cause?
I have it. While they can't find an EXACT cause, they say it's a genetic/heriditary, diet, weight issue. It's like NAFLD, but progressed.
They told me before WLS that I'd need a liver transplant, but was too heavy and didn't qualify. Since surgery, there is not longer a need for it. So there IS hope for your friend.
My docs were in Cleveland, But I DO know the #1 and #2 liver docs are IN Texas...don't know where though....

My mom used to go the Digestive and Liver Specialists in Memorial City. She did not have liver problems but had a host of gastrointestinal problems. She mostly saw Dr. Flax and Dr. Dorsch - I saw them quite frequently over her many hospital stays through many years and found them to be caring and competent. Good luck to your friend.

So sorry to hear about your friend Monica. That's just crazy. I know of a group of Liver docs who work out @ St. Luke's. Their names are Claire Ozaki, Omar Barakat, and Robert Patrick Wood. Their office # is 713-795-8994. Their office is at the O'Quinn Medical Towers in the Houston Medical Center. I've personally worked with all three of them in the operating room and they are good. I hope this helps and keep us posted about your friend.
