Thank you all for sharing your marvelous woo hoos with me! Each and everyone of them left me grateful for each little wonderful moment we have in our lives now!

New Question of the day in thinking of the OH Weekend:

Do you think therapy should be a larger part of our post op care?

Do you think more than just a questionaire for the psych evaluation shoul be done preop?

My answer is yes  and yes. I had the psych questionaire test and 3 one hour therapy sessions and think that was good preop. However I really think there should be more theraputic after care. Especially after the honeymoon stage. Too much change is life is very stressful and we could all use a little help from friends AND a little therapy!

Yes, I do think it should be standard post op care - but if insurance won't cover, then many won't attend.   I also think we need standarized bariatric nutrition consultations post op.   Just from reading the boards you can get a feel for how hit & miss that is today...   I find it a real shame that we work so hard to get the surgery and many are faced with a 'then what' approach after surgery.

I had no therapy after surgery and have to say looking back, it would have been helpful in dealing with all the post op issues.

I definately think that therapy should be a big part of post op care. Unfortunately, I can't afford it. My insurance does cover some therapy, but I work for a church and all the covered therapists are religion-oriented, and I need more help than just to be told to pray.

My psych evaluation was a long questionaire with about an hour long interview. I think I got a lot out of it.

Maybe....Not everyone needs therapy post-op but I'd like to see it more available for those that do. It would be nice if it was part of the aftercare program.

Yes... My psych eval was a joke. I met with a very nice young man, we had a brief 10 minute conversation about my hobbies. The only thing I can think of that had anything pertaining to my surgery was he was impressed I'd been married for so long, but he never asked how my marriage was.

Absolutly on both questions. I even bought two copies of Dr Stapleton's book, one for myself and one for my therapist that is in the process of trying to help more post-ops besides just me. He asks why I needed the foods that I shouldn't of had. Making you think about why you do things you know you shouldn't. He has long been an addiction counselor, and we all know food is right up there with all the others.
