The Journey 10/26

Didn't completely win the battle with the Carb Monster yesterday but didn't do too badly.

Yesterday afternoon the babies and I went to the playground again. It still amazes me that I can walk that distance over tree roots and rocks. I still have arthritis, although not nearly like I used to, so stairs are a problem, but flat walking is a breeze.

Today is my older daughter's 37th birthday - she is the babies' momma and the one who is due to give birth any day (I'm betting it will happen when I'm supposed to be at the OH conference).  With this pregnancy she developed gestational diabetes, so no cake for her. I'd like to take her out to lunch but I'm guessing her office is planning something. She's a little down that no one has given her a baby shower, but honestly, she doesn't need a thing after 3 babies in 4 years.

Right now I've got eggs boiling and will have two for breakfast and put the rest in the fridge for no-carb snacks.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Hey Lynne,

I know it may be too late now but there are a couple of options for a party for her. I went through all of this when I had Cole. Some people still say that a second or third shower is unnecessary and/or greedy but there are two facts that should be pointed out. First, every new mom and baby deserves to be celebrated. That does not mean that they need gifts. But, that leads in to my second point. No matter what, every new child will need something. This wear out from use over time. Plus mom may need new nursing supplies or whatever. But if you don't want to have a typical shower there are alternatives. Examples:

Diaper Party- Everyone brings diapers and wipes and rash ointment.

Covered Dish Shower: Each guest brings a covered dish that is ready to be frozen. At the end of the shower, the couple has a freezer full of meals for after the baby is born. For a special remembrance, have each guest write the recipe on a card. Put the cards in a file box for the mother to be. She may get hooked on freezer cooking when she sees how great it is to have a good meal ready in a hurry.

A "Sip and See" is a celebration that honors the newborn child and his or her family. The term "Sip and See" describes exactly what happens at the event, guests sip on drinks and look at the baby. This event is normally held a month or so after the baby is born and is normally hosted by a friend or relative. A "Sip and See" is an open house celebration where guests come and go as they please between given hours. There are normally no games played and gifts are not expected as they are for a baby shower.

Great ideas Michelle! I think at this point we'd do better with the reception after the baby is born. One of the big problems with people coming to their house is there is virtually no parking. It's a gated community with NO place for guests to park other than the driveway, and you can only put maybe two cars on the driveway. I need to find out if I could use the club house at my apartments.

By the way, are you still interested in the shoes?
