The Journey

Hello - my name is Lynne and I am a Carb Addict. I am also 5 1/2 years post-op from RNY weight loss surgery and two plastic surgeries.

I never lost all the way to my goal weight, but I have regained (mumblemumble) pounds in the last 3 years. I know two of my biggest problems are carbs and lack of exercise.

I am not good about taking all my vitamins.

There is something wrong in my abdomen that occured after my tummy tuck. Dr. Garth and Dr. L both say it is probably adhesions. It hurts every single day.

I am trying to do better. I have a problem with cooking for just me (my pouch is not generally happy with leftovers) so I tend to reach for easy things - which usually involve carbs.

I'm not whining, I'm not complaining. That's my story and I'm sticking with it.

How picky are you on food choices?  Sorry I can't recall things you like and dislike.  Have you considered cooking foods in the crock pot?  What dense proteins can you eat, what causes you problems?

Reach for a protein filled snack when the urge arises.  I have to do this myself, sometimes I get it right other times I let my head dictate what I do.

How about some ideas?

Cottage cheese
yogurt
microwave turkey pepperoni
cheese
deli meats
Rotissare chicken from the grocery store, you can eat it different ways.  Make chicken salad out of the left overs!
Boiled eggs
Quiche
Eggfaces web site is a blessing, some very good ideas

Dana, great ideas! I like everything on your list except I really have to be careful about chicken. About the only way I can eat it in leftovers is in chicken salad or in soup.

I don't know why I don't keep cottage cheese. I never tried it until after my surgery, and I actually like it!

Thanks for the suggestions!

Lynne, I was in the Lab and made this wonderful moist no chunk chicken salad...you do however need to have a food processor....

I take a rotisserri chicken found at your local grocery store, pull all of the breast meat off and put it in the food processer, add some light mayo and chop up until its like a paste, I then add all my onion, celery, peppers, what every you want to this salad if you need more mayo just add a few table spoons as needed...
Now, it is not a pretty salad but I can eat it without my pouch hurting; or getting the stuck feeling I normally will make this on Sundays to have during the week for a quick dinner or lunch...

love & hugs

I second Eggface's blog!!!  She's my Cuisine Queen.  I love her "bites" and mini-meatloaves.  Very single portion, freezer friendly which has saved me so many times when I don't want to cook or think.  She is so positive and upbeat.  I love her sense of humor.  She remains one of my heroes!

I've been meaning to try her "bites". I love quiche and they sound like they are similar. I should do that tonight - I know I have everything for at least one of her recipes!

I really want a Cuisinart ice cream maker like she uses to make protein drink "ice cream".  Maybe Santa will bring me one!

I actually own one of those, and have never tried it. I need to get it out and put the freezer core in the freezer - it's never cold when I get the hankering to try it.
