How long did you stay tired after surgery?

Hubby is concerned that he is way more tired than he should be after WLS.  He had surgery on Sept 21st and had zero complications.  I think he is being overly optimistic this close to surgery.

He can be up and working at home (desk job) for 3 hours and then he takes a 1.5 hour nap and repeats through out the day.  I think he is trying to push himself too hard.

I had surgery on May 11, 2010 and had complications. It took me two months to feel like I had energy again.

Feedback please?

Congrats to your hubby on his surgery.   It took me FOREVER to feel normal and have energy.   Tell him that he probably doesn't feel normal due to the drastic drop in calories plus the fact that when you are newly post op it is really hard to get in all your protein.   Make sure that he is taking his B12 as he should.   I found out that if I did not get that in I had no energy at all.    Seems like it took me about 4 to 5 weeks before I felt really good.   Good luck to you and him also.

Hugs and blessings ~~~ Vivian

Glad to see you posting!
I went back to work part time after 2 weeks and it nearly killed me. What he is doing right now sounds like a good plan and he should not plan on being able to do much more then that for at least a couple more months!

My energy level was low for months...at least maybe 4.  I chalked it up to my age.  For whatever reason, it took me, what I considered, a longer than expected time to recover my energy.  However I was also having difficulty getting in my protein.

I took naps every single day for about 3 months.  I was also pretty tired for a few months after that while I was dropping the weight so quickly.  I would say that by 6 months out, I had lost the majority of my weight, and as things started slowing down, I had more energy.  Just keep up with protien, water, and vitamins.  If you let any of that slide, it can drain your energy.

Congratulations to your hubby for his surgery. I had a Hiatal Hernia repair along with a new band placed a week ago Wed. (Sept 29). I still find myself a little more tired than I had been the first time around. I think anysurgery takes a little getting back into a routine. I still find myself wanting to take a nap during the day. I just try to be a little more active in my waking hours. Hope he is feeling better soon.

Honey, everyone is so different! 4 days after my RNY I was going to support group breakfast and hitting estate sales but the crashed and burned 2 weeks later. I would have ceaseless energy then drag my a$$ around then have a surge of energy it was just a big ol roller coaster and since I am so "special" it is still a roller coaster on the energy! Tell him to take his time and listen to his body! It will tell you what it needs!

I went back to work after two weeks and wished I would have taken three. I then was on light duty for two weeks. I guess it took me like two or three months to start getting some energy. I tell you what I have all kinds of energy now! I agree with the OPs. Just tell your DH to be patient and keep taking care of himself. He will get that burst in no time!

People recover at a different rate and age also is a factor I was out of work for 3 weeks because of a minor complication. I napped a good portion of that time off. It takes a little bit to get your energy level back up to normal after surgery. We are going to be somewhat tired because our bodies are operating on a deficit of calories. I would say he is rushing himself, I am 40 and have 3 children, work, and attend college, which has me tired out very often.

I had like ZERO energy for the first three to four weeks but it was because I wasn't getting my protein down the hatch.  As soon as I upped that, holy smokes, the energy level for me jumped big time!!!
