Anyone have BCBS of TX?
I have BCBSTX. I didn't have any problems with the ins. co. at all, they have always been more than helpful. I was approved for surgery in just 3 days. But remember the requirements have more to do with the company you work for and the way they wrote the insurance than with BCBS itself. I've read of some folks having ridiculous requirements! Mine was a record of being overweight for at least 5 years, I guess you could call that failure, and a 6mo supervised diet and education program. At around 4 mos into that program they changed it to 3 mo so I got out a month early. But I'm glad I had to go that long because it gave me time to really research everything well.
I think a lot of it depends on which BC/BS of TX plan you have .. It seems the ones who have the group employer-type plan get the easiest approval .. For those of us that had/have the BC High Risk Pool individual membership, last I heard they were actually excluding WLS entirely ..
A few years ago the Pool approved RNY for one year with documented failed attempts, psychological counseling, etc. .. Then they suddenly changed their minds and went back to the blanket exclusion .. VERY tragic, b/c the High Risk Pool is the ONLY insurance that many Texans can even get, outside of employment, b/c of their pre-existing or current condtions ..
(but maybe Obamacare will change that .. ?
