Anyone else addicted to the scale??

I know I should weigh only once a week at most... however I cant help but hop on the scale at least once a day... sometimes more.   For the longest time I wasn't able to check my weight because I didn't have a scale that went high enough.  Now that I have a "normal" scale I am intrigued by how much and when I weigh...

My boyfriend has threatened to throw the scale away, which actually throws me in a panic!  Any ideas about how to not worry so much about the numbers?

Because the scale will eventually stop moving and you're gonna have to deal with maintenance (which can be a total mindf*ck). Use the scale as a reference point of the journey, not a focal point of success.

What I recommend is start focusing on what's REALLY important. Being able to move and breathe and actually go out and live instead of exist like most morbidly obese people do. I'm not perfect on the scale or in a size but I'm able to work my body with fitness challenges I never could at 400+ pounds. I used to not be able to walk, now I run. Exercise used to consist of me getting myself out of the couch, now I can stand and do dishes, and then do a load of laundry, then cook, then garden, then play at the park with my kid. My scale isn't the measure of my success - living my life is.

Wishing you all the best,

Jenny

Hi from another Sarah!

I weighed every day for almost 2 years - no biggie!

Now I only weigh every couple of days because the scale doesn't move anymore and it just isn't as much fun.

If your boyfriend is threatening to throw it away it is probably because he is tired of hearing you talk about it - not that you are weighing all the time.  I don't mean this in a mean way - just that our whole life revolves around this surgery for the first year or two and it consumes us and we forget it isn't as fascinating to others around us.

That is where this board comes to the rescue - we NEVER get tired of talking about our surgery and lifestyle changes!

Good luck with your journey!

I actually cut down the number of times I weigh myself about 2 years after my surgery.  Up until then, I weighed twice a day.  Before I went to bed and when I got up.  Now I still weigh every day, but only when I get up.  I do it so I can track any slight weight gain and nip it in the bud.

GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!!!

I use to be until my dr. told me the scale can be a vicious creature. I was working out 7 days a week counting calories and the scale refused to budge. I started working out more and eating less and nothing. Then I learned that I was actually gaining muscle and it happens to weigh more!! So the moral of the story is don't get discouraged by the scale. I weigh on my wii about twice a week now
