I'll be in Houston for 4 days next month. My boyfriend is in a soccer tournament in Houston. I don't plan on watching much of the games, I'd rather explore.

So where are the must do, eat, and play spots in town?   Should I emplasise EAT!!!

Also are there any DS'ers in the Houston area? I'd love to meet up if anyone wants to hang out during the day while he is playing.

It's been 15 yrs since I lived in H-Town, so I'm not sure what good eating places are still around... but if shopping is your thing, you'll definitely need to go by the Galleria.... I never bought much there, but I sure did love to window shop!

You all need to drive down to Kemah and also Galveston. There's always something fun to get into there.

The Galleria has the best shopping. Anything off of Westheimer (I think I spelled this right?) around the Galleria is cool. I've bought stuff for the kids at FAO Schwartz there.

NASA is cool if you've never been. More educational than anything but interesting.

In Galveston there are the pyramids with the butterfly garden and such. It's called Moody Gardens.

Have fun!

Is Galveston a beachy area?

I know it's on the coast, but it it worth a visit for the beach?

No, Galveston is an UGLY beach (imho) and yes I lived there. But I am biased because I have the MOST beautiful Island, South Padre Island-6 hrs away from Houston.  Anyhoo, Houston has several museums, the Herman zoo or some name. DEF the Galleria/shopping district.  I hope someone actually from Houston can chime in to help u more.  Enjoy our great state.

Thanks Monica. Will avoid Galveston, since I am a beach snob too. Sounds like Galleria is somewhere that can keep me busy while he is on the field.

Just to clarify- I don't go to Galveston for the beach. I go for the atmosphere. One time we sat on the patio of a restaraunt at sunset and watched dolphins swim by. It's the cool stuff like that that keeps me going back. Other than swimming at the hotel pool, I don't think I've ever had a bathing suit on in Galveston.

Ooh sunset dining overlooking the water, sounds romantic. What's the name of the restaurant?

Pappacitos for Mexican seafood.  The diablo with extra butter.

Galveston is one of my favorite places.  Not the bes****er or beach, but great food, atmosphere, history.  Love the Strand.  Food on the Island  Landrys-Seafood (salad and crabcake), Marios on 61st, pizza.  Moody Gardens is pretty.  Hurricane museum. Bishop's Palace.

Houston--Zoo if it is cool enough for the animails to walk around.
Rice Village for shopping.  Half Price Books!  Outdoorsy kind of mall with differant shops.

What part of Houston is the tourn. in?

Thanks. We have a Papacito's here in Atlanta too.  I love the grilled lobster Yummo!

I was hoping for some one of a kind mom and pop spots like you see on Diners Drive Ins and Dives or Rachel Rays $40 a day.

We will be staying at the Marriott Westchase. I believe it's Briar Park Dr?
