Stay AWAY from Dr. David Kim

Hello All!
Just wanted to post a warning to all those looking for a surgeon in Dallas. PLEASE do yourselves a favor and stay AWAY from Dr. David Kim!!!  I had the Lap Band procedure done by Dr. Kim Dec. 09.  Since day one my port has been extremely painful and digs up into my ribs when I sit down.  It causes me a lot pain every day.  It also sticks out and looks awful.  I have told Dr. Kim and his staff  time and time again of my pain and he continues to deny that this is unusual and will NOT correct the problem.  He refuses to take any responsibility for the port misplacement.  This doctor is not interested the well being of his patients.  Once he gets your money and the surgery is done, you are on your own!  He was careless and made a HUGE mistake with my port placement but, refuses to do anything about it.  It is very frustrating!  I should have never trusted this doctor.   He is terrible!!

I am Sorry that you have had such a bad experience.   You need to call his office and talk to Pam or David about this.   Dr. David Kim is MY SURGEON and many others on here and trust me.....HE is the BEST IMHO.   I didn't have lap band surgery but still that is NOT FAIR to come here and say he is NOT a good surgeon.     I would suggest you call his office immediately and talk with them about this.    I totally disagree with your statement too about him not caring for his patients.   He did surgery on me at 10 PM 5 weeks ago tonight and he had been doing surgery since 6:30 AM.   SO I know for a fact he does care about his patients well being.

I have known Dr. Kim for several years and he has always been the kindest and caring of doctors. I'm sure there is some problem with lack of communication.  His admin does an excellent job of taking care of patients. Please take a moment and talk to the office again.  He is truly a wonderful surgeon.

Thank you so much Yvonne for backing me up on this.    This person obviously needs to let his office know that they are in pain.   I know for a fact that they will do something to help them out.

Hi Dallasgirl972,
I'm sure I have spoken with you in the past as I do all the preop education for Dr. Kim in his office. Please contact me to discuss any issues you may have with our practice. Dr. David Kim did not operate on December 30, 2009 the date you posted that you had surgery.

I have met Dr. Kim and his staff  time and time again and have gotten NOWHERE.  In my post,  I never said the day in which I had my surgery, only the month and year.

Vivian,
I have obviously met with Pam, David and Dr. Kim MANY, MANY, MANY times.  So it is COMPLETELY fair come on this site and warn everyone.  From day ONE my port has been extremely painful, it sticks out,  and digs up into my ribs when I sit down.  I five large incision scars and my port is very clearly seen through my skin.  I was in recovery for 6 hours longer than Dr. Kim said I would be.  So, clearly there were complications from the very beginning and he knew it.  It was Dr. Kim's responsibility to do the procedure correctly and he did not do that.  Nor, has he been at all willing to correct the problem.  I have spoken with many other Lap BAND patients as well as other surgeons and my situation with the port is NOT normal or acceptable like Dr. Kim claims it to be.  Dr. Kim doesn't want to admit his mistake because he will have to eat the cost for my going back under the knife.  I had to take out a loan to pay the $10,000 for this procedure and it has taken me almost 2 years to pay it off.  So, the idea that I would have to spend one more dime (due to HIS mistake) to go back in is devastating.  I saw Dr. Kim every month for the first year and informed him that it was not getting any better.  He insisted that I continue to wait to see what was going to happen with it.  Little did I know that he was simply trying to push me off until my year guarantee was up then told me it would cost another $6,000 to correct the problem.  I'm happy for you that your experience was different because I would never wish this upon anyone!  My situation with the port effects my life daily and is a HUGE problem.  It's never a ending battle with Dr. Kim. So,  I have every right to warn others that this could happen to them! This is simply FACT, not a debate.  To all those out there looking for a good doctor, save yourselves a lot of pain and money by staying away from Dr. Kim.

I spoke with Pam on the phone last night and I feel that the deactivated member *****sponded was either Pam or David.   Please call their office and talk to Pam about this matter.   She said that they would correct the problem for you.   I know that Dr. Kim is a excellent surgeon and he has done lap band on many of my friends and they have had no problems.   None of us are perfect...but I would call his office and see if you can't get this issue resolved ASAP.   I really doubt that he would charge you another $6000 if it was  his mistake.    Please call tomorrow and speak with Pam.    Again I am sorry that you are having these issues but trust me....he is a good doctor and I feel this is a isolated case that you need to get resolved with his office.

Just an observation...  If you had your surgery in Dec 09  and this is Sept 10 there is no way it has taken you "2 years to pay off your loan" or that "Dr. Kim put you off until your 1 year guarentee was over" or that you "went to him every month for the first year" like you claim.  According to my math it has only been 9 months since your surgery.  I suspect you're unhappy with your results from the lap band, as I am with mine as well, but come on.. don't blame the doctor for you choosing the wrong surgery for yourself.  Lap bands suck in some cases.  I am one of them.. but that doesn't mean the surgeon is to blame.  As Vivian said above, call Pam.. she is very reasonable and so is Dr. Kim.  They will help you.
