Venting: Can't eat/drink because of facial pain
Somewhat OT:
Venting, venting, venting, venting...
My life has been pure hell lately!!! For the past few months, I've been having a really bad toothache off and on...well what I thought was a toothache. It really started bothering me around mid to late March and since I don't have dental insurance I was in limbo. I got into Baylor's Dental School in Dallas and due to issues of being hospitalized and other things happening beyond my control, I was dropped from the program.
Fast forward to June and the pain was still there and I was getting to the point where I couldn't get much in without a massive dose of orajel before hand and then my pouch would rebel from the orajel it ingested. I ended up going to a free TMOM dental clinic in my hometown and I was informed that I had a fracture in my tooth and I only had one option that day and it was to pull the tooth. I decided against that thinking I could save the tooth with a root canal (my other option.) So I continued to save money in hopes of getting a root canal for the tooth when the pain finally became unbearable. My mother ended up calling a dentist in Dallas who grew up next door to us and he was willing to see me at a discounted cost. Well, I never made it to my appointment. We were @ 65 miles away from Dallas when we had a blow-out tire issue in my mom's new SUV. Ended up having to pay a tow truck driver $85 to change the tire to the donut; then another $241 for a new tire not to mention the gas and other things. So what I was going to spend on the dental visit went to trip/auto related expenses.
Now, I CAN'T EAT OR DRINK ANYTHING WITHOUT CONSTANT PAIN LASTING FOR 1-2 MINUTES. I ended up going to see a dentist in Austin last week and found out that I don't have a fracture or a cavity or anything related my tooth. My pain is being caused by Trigeminal Neuralgia - facial nerve pain. Imagine your worst toothache magnified 100 times or even an electric jolt in your tooth - that's my pain daily. It was odd that my tooth didn't hurt in the office but then second I stepped outside I was in agony and promptly returned to her office. The simplest thing/touch (like washing my face; a breeze touching my face; rolling over in my sleep; even opening my mouth) can set the pain off I've had to schedule my next appt with my NP earlier because I can't get my protein/fluids in anymore. I don't know what to do!!! I try to eat/drink smooth stuff (no chewing) but when the pain is absent/dull I can get most of my protein/fluids in with just the minimal discomfort. But lately, it's been so constant that I can't move my mouth much with out a jolt of pain lasting for a minute or more.
I don't want to end up with another PICC or even worse a port for my fluids/banana bag or GOD FORBID hooked up to TPN. Why me????
OK, enough venting and borrowing trouble - I won't know anything till my appointment, so pray that it's not as bad as I think it is. I was doing so well with my weight loss to then this had to creep up on me. One good thing is that I still have my tooth if that counts for anything since I can't eat a darn thing.
I'll keep ya'll posted.
