Hyperthyroidism
The best thing to do is talk to a endocrinologist about you Hyperthyroidism and the course of action for treatment and mention to him or her about your weight loss surgery. When my wife was younger she had a thyroid problem Graves's Diease and had to have her thyroid gland removed becuase back then the did not treat it with iodine. You may also want to talk to a dietician or nutritionist about you particular situation. A thyroid condition can have a drastic effect on your weight-loss. I wish I could have been of more help but I believe your best bet would be seeking professional advice. I wish you the best of luck and that everything works out for you.
They do have Thyroid suppression therapy but most likely you are either going to have to have you thyroid irradiated or removed. Hyperthyroid is not a laughing matter. You body goes into overdrive. Your heart rate raises, eyes bulge, you are irritable, can't sleep, be simular to ADHD, increase number of bowel movements because your metabolism is burning off everything it can get its hands unto, and go through manic phases of severe up swing energy burst to total wipe out!
Please understand I know this first hand. Please check my yesterdays blog entry. This heart rate can become fatal. I say this to scare you for a reason. If your heart rate is high, oxygen is not carried properly to your vital organs. You will find yourself winded. Body goes into stress mode.
I had my thyroid irradiated prior to WLS in Fall of 2007. That was a rollercoaster of fun... let me tell you! Brakes applied! Metabolism went to zero. Depression soon followed.
The best advise is to find an endocrinologist. Someone that can follow your progress closely. I love mine! I do labs every 3 months and see her once a year. She always gives me a follow up call after the lab results and consults me to my next plan.
Please understand. This can be fatal. Now I hope I scared the BeJesus out of you!

Hyperthyroidism is a serious condition as previously mentioned and should not be brushed a side. I would try to get to a endocrinologist as soon as possible so that your condition can be treated properly whether it is with iodine or removal which ever the case maybe. One lesson I have learned since being on OH and that is listen to your body and seek medical help when ever a problem pops up. There are some nurses on OH that will tell you the same thing to seek medical attention because if left untreated this could be fatal.
