Any Support Groups in Houston Area?
Hey Karen...
There are definitely some good groups to go to in the Houston area. I know there are some near the Pasadena area. Maybe Sean or Sarah will chime in with that info as they attend/lead those.
I go to the one at Dr. Davis' office off of Gessner and I-10. There are two downtown - one at the Methodist Hospital and another one at Memorial Hermann. I'm fairly certain all three are NOT "doctor specific" as these docs understand it's best to let people go and GET support than no support at all.
If there is a particular area of town you are hoping to find a group in, be sure to post that so those who might live in that area can speak up and let you know.
I'm nearly six years post-op...trust me when I say that support groups DEFINITELY help! Just being around people who "get it" is SO important. Good luck with your revision!

The Pasadena OH group meets on second Mondays at the Panera Bread on Fairmont Prkwy. We usually get there around 6-6:30 to get something to eat and the meeting sort of gets started at 7pm. We're flexible!
Where in Deer Park do you live? I'm in Highlands, I know technically DP starts this side of the ferry.

Hi, I go to the Pasedena group. We also have a group that meets the second Saturday of the month at 10 a.m. at Starbucks on Bay Area Blvd in Friendswood/Webster, across the street from Baybrook Mall (same side of the freeway). It's less formal than the Pasedena group, but it is really great. Alot of the same people go to both. I really think that support groups are a big part in keeping the weight off. I hope to see you at the groups.
You'll be fine. I had the same thing last Nov. 5 at UGH with Dr. Robrt Marvin.. I suggest you get a heating pad for the left side pain from where the port was or where ever yours is now. I really can't say I had pain just discomfort that went away when the stitches to my port site dissolved the third week. Also take your pain meds with just enough water to get them down then wait 30 min. so you don't wash the medicine into the intestine and they knock you out and be in discomfort in 2 hrs like I did at first. Also get Crystal Light hydration and Energy. Those really kept me up while I recuperated and gave me energy while on clear liquids. Take your vitamins so you have a reserve. I know these interventions are why I recovered so well and have only lost a few strands of hair. You will feel so much better and the weight and inches melt off. I'm now in 12/14 and down 70lb. without much effort. I know I could loose faster but I want to live and feel good so the slow lose is my life and I hardly have any pain in my joints or legs any more. Make sure you take magnesium citrate and calcium citrate and chelated iron because of the malabsorption the other kinds are not absorbed and pull down your reserves. I found this out the hard way. I had such pain in my arm and chest and had heart palpatations. Don't wanna go there again. I'll keep in touch.
