AND I OH SO NEED A DAY OF PAMPERING AFTER THE DAY I HAD YESTEDAY!!!!! This is gonna be a long vent/rant, so get your drink (whether it be protein or not), sit back, get comfy, relax, and re-live with yesterday me!!!
What was supposed to be a simple trip to kind of days.
First, my mom was late picking me up...SHE HAS NO CONCEPT OF TIME!!! I have no idea of what she was doing before she left her house but that started the day into going downhill and downhill fast. On our way out, we stopped at Wal Mart to get gas and I went inside to get some wieners (that our town is known for) for my nephews - mom never made it to the meat market to get them. Well, they were out, go figure. So as I was checking out, a friend of ours kept trying to engage me in a conversation when I informed her that I had a 1 PM appointment in
She didn't take the hint, because as we were trying to drive off from the store, she stopped us and was trying to start a conversation AGAIN!!!
Finally, we're on the road headed to @ a potential first call (imminent death) and they only want to deal with my mom. So, they make arrangements to meet @ 8 PM that evening (Tuesday night), but if anything happened there was someone on call for pick-ups. OK, this was finally settled as we enter
Again, drama strikes as we enter YES, SHE'S OUT OF COFFEE!!!
Granted, she drinks the stuff like we consume protein and then only drinks a special blend that she only gets at Central Market - go figure. Well, we decide to stop in
OK, she's driving and she cruises on through
that I packed and we're on our way to
OK, we're making good time, and she's somewhat content with her two (2) cups of Sonic coffee. As we're cruising along we pass through Hillsboro, and I'm thinking if I get out of my appointment early enough, don't stay long at my brothers, I just may can talk my mom into stopping in Hillsboro on our way back to get in a little shopping at the outlet mall before we have to be back to meet with her family to make arrangements and I heard something hit the car.
I didn't make a big deal of it, just concerned that it might have scratched the paint or something. Just glad that I wasn't the one driving or my dad would have had a cow and a horse knowing I'd put a scratch on the car.
Then, I heard something again. Granted I heard something earlier before we made it to I asked my mom if she heard something and she makes this "woosh" sound and asked me if that was what I was talking about. It wasn't and I gave up because my mom can be very dense when she wants to be.
Well, I kept hearing something and we were in the far left lane just leaving
By now, she's feeling the car lean and getting harder to steer. We realize we have a flat and I remember that sound I'd heard earlier hitting the car. We barely make it across three lanes of traffic to the shoulder - right before the Ft. Worth/Dallas split on IH 35. I get out and I see something in the tire
and I get my mom to roll forward a little so it'll be on top so I can get a good look at it.
Well, it's a bungie cord hook that went in one part (sidewall) of the tire and was coming out the bottom part of the tire. That's the sound I'd heard. Well, there's also a nice long deep scratch along the passenger side.
Umm, this worries me even more because
my dad is really gonna have a cow, a horse, and a goat with this info because this is a new Volvo SUV…they've only had if for 2 weeks.
We call him (dad) to find out about roadside assistance and I didn't want to make this call.
His questions are in this order:
How far did you drive on the flat? Is the rim bent? Did the tire come off and hit the car? Is the car damaged ie: scratches, scrapes, dents? Are ya'll OK? Will Kim make it to her appointment? OH SHYTTT,
I completely forgot about my appointment. It's 11:15 AM, and I called
the roadside assistance on the back of my drivers’ license to ask for help.
Then I called
my Dentist's office and left a message (gone to lunch) about what happened and where we were. A very cute
I forgave him for taking so long because he was cute - married, but cute.
He called
a tow truck to help us change the tire $85
to change the tire and cash/credit card only. The officer used to live in
It took the tow truck driver another 30 minutes
to get to us - granted we're just over the little hill outside of
The two men bond for about 10 minutes over our poor tire and the cop leaves and the tow truck driver finally gets to work.
Now, we have to stand outside on the highway while as the tow truck driver starts to work and it’s HOT AZ HELL
…the sweat rolling down my face and body is starting to form a lake under me. I start to wonder why it’s taking the guy so long
to get the spare so I turn around, walk to the back of the truck and all I can do is shake my head
and mutter “Lord, why meÂ",
because this man is talking to himself trying to figure out how to open the panel that leads to the lock thing to unlock and lower the tire. Now, UMMM, please tell me why I had to get the manual out to read/explain
to the tow truck driver how to get the spare out. He kept telling us parts of our assembly to remove the tire and jack were missing - it took him 20 minutes
to find the parts and then he says "Oh, this looks like it's never been used"
...HELL-$#@%ING-O, THIS TRUCK IS BRAND SPANKIN’ NEW only 728 miles on it last night when we returned. OK, finally the tire is on, but it's now 1:19 PM
and I'm trying to make it to 635 in
back to my Dentist's office and let them know we finally have the tire changed but it's a donut (I thought Volvo's came with a "regular 5th wheel" and not a donut.
I know my mom's Volvo car does - guess the SUV's don't) and we can't drive as fast now.
I have to reschedule my appointment to next week. Thank goodness
my dentist grew up next door to us and is like a brother to me. He offered to see me after hours, but he had his kids last night and I didn't want to interrupt his time with his kids. My cracked tooth is just going to have to wait another week.
OK, we start off again, now $85
less in the bank, a big old boo-boo on the truck, a rescheduled Dental appointment for me, a rescheduled service arrangement appointment for my mom and a different destination of The Colony instead of Dallas.
I called my brother to tell him what happened and of course he's upset that we didn't call him @ our flat - the man works nights and he was asleep
and I didn't want to disturb him. He offered to start looking for a tire for us and I gave him the info. We arrived at his house and he and my mom left to go find a tire. By this time I'm getting hungry.
Remember I packed my food so I'd have something healthy to eat. Well, I couldn't find the cooler in the house; apparently we left it in the truck. OK, I had a protein bar
in my purse, so I chow down on that. My mom and brother arrive back at the house and I find out that the tire was $247.43.
WTH???
The new tire wasn't even the same brand of tire that came off, but compatible.
My parents are going to the Volvo dealership in
Knowing my dad he’ll replace all 4 tires because of how they’re matched (better the match, smoother the drive) at the factory.
We finally leave my brothers house headed for home around 6:45 pm - trying to miss Dallas traffic, now $332
less in the bank b/c of tire issues, $65
less in my wallet b/c of gas, a big old boo-boo on the truck, a rescheduled Dental appointment for me, a rescheduled service arrangement appointment for my mom and NO FOOD -WTH???
My mom proceeds to inform me that she ate it while at the tire shop.
Well, we had to make a pit stop @ Wally World for me to get a rotisserie chicken, lettuce leaves and mustard so I could eat a wrap on the way home. Now I'm out even more money.
Now, I'm drivng and we start off again
and I refuse to make another stop until West...I just love their pickles!!!!
Now wasn’t it just my luck??? I can’t complain though…we could have wrecked and ended up in a hospital somewhere or worse - instead we were able to get to the shoulder and get it changed. An angel
was watching over us because we live through the day and got to see another one today!!!
Now, I get to try this appointment thing again next week. Hopefully things will be better!!!
So, how was your day yesterday ????? Did you laugh
or did you cry
OR did you do both
and
like I did????
Sorry my book was so long, but I just had to vent and thought ya’ll get a good laugh while reading this. Oh, I can laugh about it now and these smilies are truly helping, but yesterday was a whole different story, I had more steam
coming off me than
a brick!!!!
