Private Insurance BC/BS Texas?

Hello everyone!

I have new, private insurance through BC/BS Texas.  My BMI is 35.2 and I haven't had any bloodwork done yet to test for co-morbitities, etc. yet, but I do know that I have high cholesterol that I've had for about 5 years.  I don't know how this whole process works, but my husband and I are scheduled to attend a seminar on 9/11.  What has everyone's experience been with BC/BS Texas, and does it make a difference that it's private insurance?  I don't even know if it's worth going to the seminar if insurance will turn me down anyway.  Both of my parents just had VSG, and I have a family history on both sides of diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, colon cancer, etc.

Any info would be very much appreciated!

Thanks,
Jen

I have BCBS of Texas through my work. I had no problems getting approved. I had high blood pressure and sleep apnea. I had to do 3 months of a dr. supervised diet instead of the six months that some have to do. Several other tests were done by the surgeons team and then they sent all the files to BCBS and I was approved pretty quick.

Every policy is completely different.  I have BS/BS, and I had no problem at all, and I didn't have to do a medically monitored diet.  The insurance I had before wouldn't cover wieght loss surgery nomatter what the situation.  It is worth a try.  Even if you get denied, it is worth an appeal.
