Texas people, particulary Houston area - what do you know about
Park Plaza Hospital? Any experiences? Does any one know anything about Dr. Sherman Yu or Dr. Terry Scarborough?
I'm a self-pay patient considering traveling all the way to Texas for surgery. The price seems right with this doctor and they have a couple of things I've been looking for (Bariatric Center of Excellence, they offer insurance to cover complications if something goes wrong, and they perform a single incision surgery.)
I really want to make the most informed decision possible, so any insight is appreciated! :)

I used Dr. Scarborough when he was still at Hermann. Park Plaza is a great hospital and Dr. S is a fantastic surgeon. He performed the first laproscopic kidney transplant ever done. He is extremely quiet. He's a very nice and skilled surgeon. Dr. Yu worked with me when I had my surgery and is an excellent surgeon also.

I don't know about the doctor or hospital, but I wanted to say good for you making the decision to have surgery when you are self pay. I fought insurance companies for 5 years trying to get coverage, and it was only when my company changed insurance coverage that I got it covered. The surgery has changed my life in such a great way, my only regret is that I lost those 5 years battleing health issues and social and mental issues, and I wish that I had self payed to get the surgery 5 years sooner. It would have been worth it, even knowing that waiting 5 years would get insurance to cover it.
Dr. Scarborough is my doctor too! My surgery is 8/2 but I can tell you that I absolutely adore his staff and his office. Sure he's quiet but he is skilled and knowledgable so if you ask him a question he WILL know the answer. He doesn't rush you either. His office is busy though and I've had to wait 20-30 minutes to be seen but the office is so nice with such a great view that its no bother especially since I know he's not going to rush me out either. He's the best at what he does and I've met his scrub team which all specialize specifically in bariatric surgery. I'm completely excited for my surgery-no nervousness! He's amazing. Now for the hospitals-I used to work for Park Plaza but I've never been treated there. Park Plaza is nice, across the street from his office and is clean. I've worked with several doctors that have privileges there and they've all been top notch.
Hope that helps!
