SMELLEY QUESTION help

My dear loved one who is 10 years out from RNY surgery has HORRIBLE GAS (mainly at night) and her bowel movements are BAD SMELLEY!!!! She takes digestive enzymes and acidiphilous hoping to help the issue but it doesnt. She is getting to where she doesnt want to stay overnight anywhere around anyone else because of this. Does ANYONE have any other suggestions on things she can try. Or do you know the main foods she should avoid? I know sugar is one of them.
I am a little over 2 months out on my RNY surgery and Im wondering if this is what I hve to look forward to down the road?

Unfortunately that is very common.  Don't have any suggestions just sympathy cause a LOT of us suffer the same fate.

products that have hepled me, I too suffer romm horrendous gas...

 

Poo Pourri...spitz into commode before "going" and it eliminates odor

Febreeze...cary it everywhere

new products have heard really work...

subtle butt...charcpoal infused liners for the back of your panties that absorb odor

gasbgone...a cushion you sit on that absorbs sound and smell

these things sound funny but for those of us that suffer they can be a Godsend! Good luck and keep your sense of humor humor. These little things do make us special!

There's also a tablet you can take that neutralizes gas....Devrom. Luckily I don't have any of those problems but a GF swears by the Devrom and I haven't noticed any odors when I'm around her.

Yes, you probably can look forward to this!  I  buy Just A Drop to put in commode BEFORE you go from justadrop.com  it comes in handy single packets or little bottles.  works fairly well.

Yeah I saw those products that Meg was talking about on The Rachel Ray show Monday. They worked pretty well for those folks. I have the problem too. Not so bad that I have to resort to these items. I just carry a small bottle of airfreshner in my purse so that I have it every where I go. I was really gassy the first few months but not so bad now.

I've heard of ppl with colostomies that put chlorophyll tabs in their bags, maybe she could check on that.

I don't think RNYers have a problem with this as often as we DSers do, but it's possible that, despite the probiotic use, she might have developed an overgrowth of "bad" bacteria in her gut that is responsible for the problem.  The solution in DS-land is to take a 7-14 day round of the antibiotic Flagyl to kill off the bad guys.  

 If for some reason her surgeon or family doc won't prescribe her a 'round of Flagyl, then she might consider getting some on her own from online.  Many of us either use the online Mexican pharmacies to obtain it, or order the veterinary form for fish tanks from Amazon.com (called "Fishzole" - it is actually manuf. by Thompson Labs in Rowlett   ).  It is exactly the same stuff and dosage as the human pharmacy variety, but does not have the delay-dissolve coating on it, since it is designed to quickly dissolve in the water of a fish tank.     Just take a BIG gulp of water with it and down it a.s.a.p.  --  otherwise it will leave a horrible taste in your mouth!
