Surgery Scheduled
Betsy.....most people come home from surgery on a week or so of liquids unless your doctor lets you eat. I would say if you can eat....pureed soups, cottage cheese, refried beans, soupy cream of wheat, jello, popsycles, I think that you get the picture. He should give you some kind of guide to go by with food suggestions and then they will probably have you come in every few weeks with updates as to what you are to be eating. I wish you ALL the luck in the world with your surgery. Oh you may want to go buy some very tiny containers and a baby spoon and fork. You will need to take tiny bites and it makes it easier to do that with baby silverware.

Woo Hoo...Let the journey begin!
It will all depend on your Dr.s post op plan, whether you are on clear liquids, full liquids (cream soups, ie. any liquid you can't see through), or soft mushies when you are released from the hospital. I was on full liquids for the first week then moved to soft mushies.
From the first day Gertie the Pouch hasn't liked anything cold in the mornings, still doesn't! So I'd start the day with very thin cream of wheat made with skim milk. As I collected different sugar free syrups, I'd add them.
My NUT and Dr. both said not to worry about counting calories or fats the first few weeks, to just concentrat on getting in fluids and as much protein as I could. That was good news to me because I hated the canned soups and 'diet' offerings, usually way too much sodium. I went to my favorite sandwich/soup shops and got several of my favorites. The cream based broccoli and potato were the easiest, the vegetable blends were easy to mush up without having to puree it to death!
Unjury's protein chicken soup mix
SF popsicles...Gertie would tolerate them in the afternoons but only if I crumbled them in a bowl and ate them with a spoon!

Congrats! That's awesome news. When I was on pureed/soft foods. 2 things that I couldn't live without were the idahoan instant potatoes, cream of chicken soup and the v8 soups. Also, SF popcycles. I was never a big fan of these before but now I love it because it makes you feel so much less dehydrated quickly.
One thing I tried, rather unsuccessfully, was baby food. I must tell you there is nothing worse than a pureed green bean...poor babies.
Also, it's good to get some samples of diff. protein powders. I bought some from bariatriceating.com, vitalady.com, drinkclick.com (although prob not good to have caffeine just after surg) and GNC and vitamin shoppe probably have a few too. They say that your tastes change after surgery (although I can't point to anything other than my love of popsycles that's diff for me) so don't bother tasting beforehand.
The thing to remember is not to overbuy...I'm still working through food that I bought pre-surgery.
So excited for you!
