Need Some Shakey Advice!!
I am trying out some of the shakes my nutritionist suggested for me to try and see which one I like.
I was wondering if anyone has had any success with these:
Unjury Shakes and bars
Atkins shakes and bars
Slimfast shakes and bars
Bariatric Advantage High Protein Meal Replacement and bars
Optifast shakes and bars
I hope someone can give me some insight as to the success of any of these. I was hoping not to have to try all of them.
Thanks in advance!

Ok....I have never tried Unjury but heard it was good. Atkins shakes are alright and handy becaust they are mixed for you so if you are on the go you can just open the can and drink. Slimfast is OK too but not as good as Adkins IMHO....BA shakes are really good and never tried Optifast. That is my take on them. Hope they helped.

My 2 cents...I like Worldwide Pure Protein. Have been drinking them for 3 yrs. 35 gms protein, 0 sugar, 180 cal. I use to drink 2 a day first 6 months, then one a day next 2 years, now one about every other day. They are my insurance policy.
With all the problems and hospitals visits I have had, if all else failed I could rely on these protein drinks to get my nutrition in!

Unjury is very well liked by most people. Esp the chocolate and vanilla. You can't go wrong with anything from GNC. Optimum Nutrition and Max Protein are two of the GNC favorites. GNC offers a guarantee-if you don't like it bring it back and trade it for something else. If you like coffee flavored things Click is very popular too. Don't buy too much of anything cuz everyone's taste buds are different,

Baratric Advantage neal replacement shakes are okay but as someone mentions your taste buds change and now I have to adjust and add things to drink them.
Another brand you should consider is Nectar made by Syntrax large variety of flavors and you can purchase a variety pack from them to try. Here is the link to there website http://www.si03.com/medical/med_index.htm
I like the cappacino flavor and purchased some of it and you purchase Nectar at Vitamin Shoppe and several online retailers.
I also have tried Muscle milk light which can be picked up at various retailers such as Academy sporting goods who has the cheapest,
Aslo there is Isopure shake powder, however it is relatively expensive but I have someone who is able to get it for me a little bit lower cost.
I also try to get most of my protein from what I eat such as meat and dairy. Plus I buy a protein enriched sugar free granola, high protein sugar free hot cereal, high protein sugar free pan cake mix and high protein cookie from a place in Hutto.
I also have some Isopure unflavored Whey isolate that I use to boost the protein in the sugar free HEB oatmeal.
As far as protein bars I personally like Think Thin products which are all natural gluten free and sugar free. I get mine from Whole foods and have them order them by the case. I get a 10% discount from them and they are cheaper than anybody else who carries online on in a store. HEB carries 3 of the flavors in the store.
The Atkins, Slimfast, Optifast shakes and bars I believe were mentioned was that they are easy to pick up at your local stores such as Wal-mart, and HEB. HEB has their on brand of Optifast shakes.
Again it is going to be mainly a manner of your personal taste, whether or not you want to pick up the protein from a local store or ordering off the web. IF you order off the web watch the shipping cost because you could end up paying more for something you could have picked up locally. I consider protein shakes like any other drink we have different tast at different times and need to have a variety on hand
Again everyone ones taste buds are different and so if possible try some products before you buy large amounts and even then I would watch how much you buy. Vitamin Shoppe would be a good place to and buy a bottle of RTD protein and to try some of the many different protein bars on the market. GNC is a good place to go also on the protein front but are expesive even with their discount card. But I look at things this way if it is good tasting and I need it I will spend the money. My main thing is I look at the sugar content on the protein I try to go with ones that are sugar free or extremely low. I have been extremely lucky that I have not ever dumped and so I do everything in my power not to.If you are interest in the granola or hot cereal I mentioned that get from the place in Hutto PM me and I will give you the places information so that you can speak to them. The owner is very nice and he and his wife have been extremely helpful when I was having trouble tolerating certain things earlier in the year. I hope this information is helpful but again the final selection depends on your personal taste.

Stephanie's right...everybody's taste buds are different. Just because someone says something is great, you may think it tastes nasty. You might want to order a sample pack of powders from bariatriceating or something. If someone lives near you maybe they'll give you some to try in snack size ziploc baggies.
I use Click because I like the coffee flavor but it has the least amount of protein.
I drink Atkins ready made shakes a lot. I love the Mocha latte and cafe caramel. The chocolate and vanilla are good too.
I also use Isopure ZeroCarb creamy vanilla for a base for shakes. Susan Maria's book on bariatriceating is well worth the cost for advice and lots of shake and food recipes. You can also get the recipes on her website.
On a daily basis I make a protein latte. I use a 2 cup coffee mug and put 3/4 to 1 c skim milk in, heat it in the microwave for 35 seconds, then make a cup of coffee with my Keurig coffee maker and then add 1 to 2 splenda packets and then a scoop of Nectar Cappucino protein powder.
I get my protein powder and a lot of supplements/vits from vitacost.com It's 4.99 shipping no matter how much you buy and the protein is less costly there than other websites in general.

I am a newbie trying out shakes too.
So far I like the Atkins ready made shakes Mocha latte the best but only 15g of protein :(.
Went to Costco yesterday (had to find a friend w/a card as I am a Sam's girl) and got the Premier Protein Choclate (30g WOW) it is a little richer but not bad. I think I might add some coffee to it next time. But a case of 18 was less than $24.
Has anyone tryied the Protein Waters?

Expermenting with the shakes is part of the fun. you may want to try adding low fat yogurt, and fruit. I tend to use bananas with both strawberry and chocolate flavored protien powders. I bought some expresso shots from HEB to add to my Nectar cappacino. I believe it is Stok coffee shots. Another project is my on expresso based iced coffee, which I add some protein (Isopure unflavored whey isolate) to it. There are many smoothie receipes out there that you can use and change up fo using you protein powder. Have fun and experiment with your protein powders and shakes to your taste.
