I was thinking about using them but they were not on my insurance at the time. They notified me couple months ago that they were finally on my insurance. Each nutritionist or dietician are different as each patient is different. However I would epect the nutritionist to ask about you eating habits and to explain to you the plan for you before surgery and after surgery. I would also expect them to explain the vitamin and protein requirements to you as well. The nutritionist can be a valuable asset becuase I had my surgery in San Antonio I found my own nutritionist in Austin to work with. My surgeon used the hospital dietician. However, the nutritionist will be able to answer a lot of your question pretaining to what you should and should not eat. However, I did not see the dietician until after I was approved, and I did not seek out the nutritionist I use until I ran into problems and could not get answers from the dietician. Each surgeon or Group does things a little different but all pretty much will give you a packet of information for you to review and follow. I am actually planning to use Southwest Bariatric Surgeons if I have any problems in future as my surgeon is moving to the panhandle area. Your appointment should go fine and will be one that is very informative.

Hi Kimberly,

SWB did not do my surgery, mine was done in Dallas by Dr. Wade Barker.  Since I am now in the "Austin" , I am now a patient of Dr. Nancy Marquez..

I've heard nothing but good things about their office and staff.

Not much info but hope it helps some!

Blessings,

Nina

I highly recommend Dr. Marquez. (I even recommended her to Nina now that she's in Austin.)

One of my good friends was Dr. Marquez's 1st RNY patient and she's done great. I had my surgery about 6 months later and have had great success. At over 4.5 years out, I've put on weight from my lowest, but I'm still well below Dr. Marquez's goal weight for me.

There's a group of us that used Southwest that refer to Jerry (the nutritionist - I'm assuming he's still there. I've been released from care unless I have any complications) as the "food nazi". He's strict, but if you follow the protocol, you will succeed.

I'm getting ready to run out to a client meeting, but if you have any specific questions, feel free to private message me and I'll respond when I can.
Blessings, Jennifer

I had surgery last week with Doctor Jinnie Bruce.  She was very good.  I saw the nutritionist Jerry.  He was very helpful.  He basically tells you what and how to eat.  There is a brief test to make sure you understand.  Any questions you miss he will explain it to you again.

I understand about the insurance company.  I have United with Flextronics and they approved me with no hassle.  Just work with your advocate for any help.

Most of my problems was just getting the paperwork to the advocate.

Doctor Bruce also practices in Round Rock Seton hospital and that is why I chose her.  I did not have any problems after surgery, but I had the sleeve.

Just follow their advice and it is alot easier.
