I absolutely love watermelon and I am craving it really bad right now. I know it has a higher sugar contentent than other fruits so, does that mean I should avoid it at all cost?  Thanks for your response :)

My surgeon told me that I could eat fruit like that in moderation.  I used to love bananas.  He told me that I do not have to avoid it, just don't eat a lot of it.

I bought a watermelon yesterday that is absolutely fabulous!! I can only eat a small amount at a time.  The water in it and fiber get me bloated and make me feel uncomfortable, but small amounts are doable.

In fact, I was told by my nutritionist at my last appointment to eat more fruit such a melons and berries. You have to watch the serving size which plays into how much sugar and carbs are actually intaked. The average serving size of fruit is actually small for example  1/2 of a banana is consider one serving. So it all boils down once again to portion control. I try to plan my fruit intake when I can as part of my daily meal plan like today my breakfast was half cup of sliced strawberries and 6 ounces of low fat vanilla yogurt. I would recommend buying the seedless variety of watermelon. So you should be able to enjoy your watermelon and other fruits just in moderation to avoid possible dumping.

You'll just and to try and see how it reacts for YOU-I'd start off with a small portion-and try it AT HOME

watermelon is the worst for diabetics who have to watch their sugars.  So like the others have said just try it in moderation and at home just in case you dump from it.
