Obsessed with the Spill

I work in the oil & gas industry.  To see the spill and the affect it's having on our economy and eco system, lost lives, etc. is heartbreaking.

I'm reading ALL I can and watching a live feed this morning of the current operation.  I need to get to work.  Wanted to share the live-feed link with any of you, if you are interested......it is mind boggling.

It is sad Dana, especially for us that are directly related to it in some way or another. TEEX is involved through training personnel that actually do the oil spill clean-ups. As Texan's or Louisiana folks, we are involved because it impacts our shores. I worry about all the wildlife and fish and other ocean dwelling creatures that it will effect!

Thanks for sharing the feed!

Hugz,

I am so right with you, Dana.  I find this whole thing horrifying and depressing.  I don't see how this spill can fail to affect the ecosystem all over the world, not just in the Gulf.  To see it fouling the earth and sea so close to where we live is like a personal violation.

I wish President Obama would treat this disaster like the national wake-up call that it should be and get serious about (a) forcing companies like BP to have realistic contingency plans for events like this and (b) reducing our addiction to oil.

Did you see the 60 Minutes segment on the causes for the Deepwater Horizon explosion?  It's incredibly eye-opening -- not to mention infuriating.  You can see it online.

Louisiana is home and it is heartbreaking to know and see what is happening.

Also gives me more reason to know that wind energy is a great alternative. I have a personal investment in that as well, and I really hope it pays off - literally.

Anyway, there has to be alternatives to this fiasco.

Beast is also in the oil industry, he's a supervising welder for BJ Pipeline. He's been building alot of the 'stuff' they are using in various ways to stop this horrendous leak. And being so close to it, talking to the engineers and technicians at BP on a daily basis he's been telling me all kinds of stuff about the whole thing. The stats on this thing at just mind boggling! I remember the Valdez spill and how it effected nature, that was a drop in the bucket to what this is now. Watching the footage of the actual leak and knowing the pressures involved at 5000 ft, it's still hard to fathom just how much a million gallons is.

Thanks for the link, I'll make sure he sees it, too.
