Hi - New to the site
I just recently joined the site. Thought I would take some time to introduce myself.
I am Sarah. I am 29 yrs old. I live in Houston, TX. Married and have one son who is 1 yrs old. I have been over weight my entire life and lived in denial for so many years about getting help but two years ago things sunk in and I realized I can't do this on my own. As I was about to start getting help I miraclously got pregnant with my son. We tried for 5 yrs to get pregnant with no luck, then bam it happened, he was born 10 weeks early. After he was born it was even more motivation to get help. November 2009 I attended a weight loss surgery seminar and started my process. I have picked Dr. Ferrari as my surgeon. As of Monday I have completed all of my insurance and surgeon's requirements. Now just waiting for them to submit to insurance. I am going to call tomorrow for an update to see when we might be submitting. I know they are still waiting on some test results. So really hoping we can submit here in the next week. I am so ready!
I joined this site to meet others and have a good support system in tact because I know I am going to need it. Plus it would be great to make some new friends!
Hello Sara. Welcome to the TMB. Congratulations on completing your requirements. I hope that you hear back from your insurance soon. It is a very good thing that you are getting your support system ready. When you get closer to your surgery, you can ask for an angel. That person will walk you through your WLS journey. We are all here for any questions or support that you may have. Feel free to ask.

I am calling my surgeon's office tomorrow to see when we are going to be submitting to insurance. I have Cigna insurance so I hope they approve fairly quickly. From what I read on posts they are pretty fast and my surgeon's office said the same thing.
Dee, I live on the Northwest side of Houston. I am very close to Katy, in fact I work out in Katy. Would love to meet people in the area. I know when I had my nutrition consult at the Memorial Hermann Memorial City hospital she said they have a support group that meets once a month. I missed the May one but hoping to attend the June one. If you know of others please let me know!
Hoping to have a June surgery date if all goes smoothly!
Welcome! I'm fairly new to the site too. I just had my RNY on April 26th. This site has been INVALUABLE to me. I don't know what I would have done without it. And the Texas Message Board (TMB) has been a great source of information and comfort. Also, once your surgery is scheduled, they have forum for people that have surgery in the same month: go to forums>surgery dates and select the month/year. It's a great way to communicate with lots of people going through what you are at the same time!
Hope your insurance process goes smoothly!

GOD GRANT ME THE SERENITY TO ACCEPT THE THINGS I CAN NOT CHANGE; COURAGE TO CHANGE THE THINGS THAT I CAN; AND THE WISDOM TO KNOW THE DIFFERENCE !!!! THIS IS MY DAILY PRAYER.

welcome to TMB. I cannot stress highly enough to attending some of the fabulous support groups that are in houston. (i lived there a few years, i speak from experience lol). As Dee pointed out, just let us know what area you reside, we have pasadena, baybrook mall, cypress, katy, and im sure many others covered. THe in person support in invaluable.
Also, i recommend you read the WLS train everymorning. Its just a thread we do to check in with each other. Great way to get to know each other.
Congrats on your surgery!!! Its the best thing you will ever do (besides your son of course lol)

When I was born, I cried and the world rejoiced. Now i wanna live my life so that when I die, the world cries and I rejoice
I am almost 2 years out and lost 103 pounds and so far have kept it off *knock on wood*. Losing it is the easy part - keeping it off can be hard work but oh so worth it if you have struggled like me for years and never got it off in the first place!
I can't imagine doing this without the support of TMB and the local support groups in Houston. The doctors are good surgeons and try to put education programs in place but there is no substitute for living it every single day like we do.
There is an OH Conference in Houston the first week in November and I highly recommend you going. You will be a few months out and will get a chance to meet a lot of us in person.
