Molina band revisions?
I got my Molina band in 2003 and have kept off the 80 lbs I lost but I know have an obstruction. I have severe reflux at night that wakes me up choking. It's horrible. Going in for UGI endoscopy on Tuesday to see the extent of the damage to my stomach. AFter that the doctor will fight with the insurance company to approve band removal and revision to bypass. My band was made out of Gortex which apparently adheres real bad which is why I can't just have it removed without any further surgery. He will have to cut above and below the band to get it out and then bypass. All of the people I have read about gained their weight back that had revision but I am curious to also hear from people that didn't gain the weight back and had similar problems as mine.
I had two lapbands .. the first put in in 2001 and when it slipped in 2009 i replaced with another. Within a few months I was having all the same symptoms as you including esophagael spasms and reflux cough. I revised to gastric bypass in august 2009. During the 9 years I had the bands I lost and kept off about 50 lbs but never really got below 225. Since having the bypass 9 months ago I have lost about another 85 lbs and have reached goal at 138 lbs! All the symptoms I had with the band are gone. The procedure was done laparascopiclly and i have had no side effects or complications. i love the bypass and my only regret was not doing it from day 1. Good luck to you. Maryjo
