Dana, thank you for posting this to the TMB.  To all, thank you for your kind words, prayers, and positive thoughts.

Mom was doing better and I had transferred her to a rehab facility for the remainder of her recovery.  Unfortunately, her complications from her colectomy were just too much.  She had developed sepsis and an abdominal blood clot.  They were able to resolve the sepsis with many weeks of IV antibiotics, but had to stop treating the blood clot due to her low platelet levels.  The hope was that her body would naturally dissolve and absorb the clot.

My suspicion (and it will remain a suspicion because there will be no autopsy) is that she threw a pulmonary embolism ~ a clot that travels to the lungs.  Ninety-five percent or more do not survive a PE.

While my family and I are devastated, a teeny part of me is grateful, because now we don't have to watch the Alzheimer's take her away slowly.

For those of you who are interested, there will be a visitation from 4-8 on Friday at All Faiths Funeral Home at 8507 North IH-35, in Austin.

Sharyn:
As you know - my thoughts are w/ you at this time. Life can throw some unexpected punches. You need to lean on Janet right now and let her support you through the sorrow. You are right in what you said about Alzheimers......
Kisses and hugs.
