2 Weeks POST RNY Surgery

Hello how is everyone.

Just thought I would chime in on where I am hoping someone might find it interesting as they are thinking about surgery.

I am exactly 2 weeks post surgery.  I have lost in those 2 weeks... 21 pounds.  That brings my total loss since Oct. 1, 2009 to 107 pounds (5 months). Not too shabby since my actual surgery was 2 weeks ago.

Portals are healing well it looks to me. No issues with them at all really.  Dr. Davis used dissolving stitches and some type of liquid bandage and has performed really well.  I was off the heavy drugs a week ago. I would probably like to take some liquid Tylenol, but it is full of corn syrup so I passed.  I have taken a few ground up.  I ordered a mortar and pedestal set from amazon last night to help with that. He also put me on a anti-gall stone medication last week to prevent them during rapid weight loss.

Pouch/Diaphragm area is sore but getting better day by day.  Still learning what is a surgery pain and what is going to be normal for the small pouch.  You really gotta eat/drink slowly.

Walking and getting around really well.  Just have to be somewhat ginger with body core movements.  Slouching at a desk can hurt as well. I went back to work on Monday which is about 1.5 weeks out.

Been eating some pureed soups, protein shakes, SF Jello and Puddings.  I put the ground up pills in the puddings. I made some soft scrambled eggs tonight for the first time they went down OK.  I can only eat about 1/2 of a cup and I am done.

I am in heavy ketosis (deep red).  So I definitely know the fat is burning off for all you Adkins people out there.

Energy level has been somewhat low but better expected I think.  Finally had my first REAL BM about 2 days ago.  Before that it was quite an interesting situation to put it mildly.

The 80 grams of protein and the 64 oz. of water target I have not really been able to hit yet.  I am way off on tha****er and I am getting about 50 grams of protein from the shakes.  But it is coming.

Let me know if you have any questions!

TTFN.

Congrats on the great weight loss so far!

The low energy level is normal, I know from the outside it doesn't look like they did much, but you just had your insides rearranged!  That plus a drastic cut back in your intake will cause a real drop in energy.  Just get some rest, try to take it easy and give your body time to heal.
And you're right getting in  all your protein and water in, it does take time, just keep striving towards it....

By the way, welcome to the message board!

Sounds like you are doing great so far! Wow - scrambled eggs - it was TWO YEARS before I could eat those, and still have to make sure they are really soft. Good luck - you have a wonderful doctor. Did Robert or Garth do your surgery?
