As of October 1st, United Healthcare now covers Gastric Sleeve.  This is great news!.  It wont be long until the other insurance companies follow suit like they did with the lap band

UHC paid for my sleeve at the beginning of June.  I was approved after my first request.

Yeah, Surgeons would get a Bypass approved and then do a Sleeve instead and tell the insurance company  they weren't able to do a bypass for some reason or another.  That is a common practice.. UHC had it specifically written into their policy that Gastric Sleeve's were "unproven and therefore not covered".  That changed on October 1st.  Now they don't have to lie to United Healthcare to get the approval.

Nope, we specifically requested the sleeve and I got a letter saying that my request for VSG was approved.
