Can you give me your opinion?

I had RNY 6/16/09.  I weighed 350 the day of surgery and as of today I weigh 304.8.  It seems that I hover around the same weight for 7-10 days before dropping 1/2 pound or so.  Two days ago I weighed 302.0.  I understand about fluctuations related to water, hormones, etc...but this happens every week or longer.  I am beginning to get discouraged because this should be the time that I am losing the most in the shortest amount of time.  I am bumping up my excercise - any amount is better than what I use to do...Nothing.

The following is an idea of what I'm eating although it changes from week to week according to what I can tolerate.  For example, chicken breast will now be a far and few between meal as I suffer from the dryness/thickness/awfulness of it as many of you do.

If you can, please look over my sample menu and let me know what you think.  I've been tracking it on DailyPlate and I am usually eating under 800 calories, my protein is a little unstable - working on that (hard to get it in...I'm planning on getting a protein mix when payday arrives).  I struggle with anything that flirts with the carbs - they make me really unsatisfied and in search of something more.

B - Atkins Advantage Mocha Latte Shake

L - 2 oz lean ham or 2 oz chicken or chicken salad

Snack - Blue Bell Sugar Free Popsicle (2 sticks)

D - 2 oz Pork Loin or chicken or lean hamburger patty

Snack - Atkins Advantage Shake or 1-2 Tbl natural creamy peanut butter or 4 green olives w/pimento and 1 oz cheese

In your opinion, what do I need to do or change to help get me into a losing mode?  Any advice would be sooo appreciated.  Thanks!!!

How much water are you drinking?  I would up the protien and drown in water if I were you.  A minimum of 64oz with a target of 128oz.  I think you will do better upping protein.

Remember that exercising builds muscle which weighs more than fat and requires more protien to maintain.

Keep going 50lbs in less than 3 months is awesome.  You are doing great

If you're not getting ENOUGH calories your body won't burn, it will store. Most people try for 1000-1200 calories to maintain a burn.  You might need to up your calories as well as the protein.

One other thing to add - some of us are just simply slow losers, so don't get too discouraged.  They'll also tell you that you'll be done after a year and that's not necessarily true.   I am over two years out and get this, Still Losing!!!  My doctor is both impressed and surprised that I'm still dropping weight.

So, the morale of the story is simple - do everything you can do to help your body but understand that your body will do what it's going to do.  Some of us hang onto the fat longer than others.  And, don't let anyone dictate a timeline to you...

Good luck and feel free to pm me when you're discouraged.  I have lots of wisdom nuggets to share :)

Do not get discouraged because that makes you lose slower.  I was 2 months out and was on a plateau and didn't lose a pound for 6 WEEKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!  They it started falling off at 5 pounds at a time.  It's so normal and it's normal to worry but try very hard to know that it's going to be OK. It hapens to so many of us!!
hugs, Y

I think your menu looks wonderful.  For only being 3 months out I think your calorie count is great too.  At over 2 years out I try to stay around 1000-1200 calories.  You are making good choices with lots of high protein foods.  I'm not sure how much protein your shakes have but the ones I use give me 20gm per shake.

I know it SEEMS like you're losing slowly but when in your life have you ever lost 45 lbs in less than 3 months?  I think your weight loss is fantastic.  Be proud that you're working your tool and hang in there.  I was a "slow loser" too but ended up reaching my goal in about a year.

So you say you aren't losing weight, but are you losing inches?  There for awhile I was only losing 1 lb every 2 weeks but I was losing inches.  I had my surgery June 9, 2009 and have lost 38 lbs and have lost from a size 24W pants to size 14.  I also lost 3 bra sizes and 2 top sizes.
So you see, just because lbs aren't falling off, you still are losing if you are losing inches and toning your body up.
Don't get discouraged.  It will happen, and when it does, OMG it feels sooooo good.

Good luck,
DeborahL.
