Just got this in from her niece Michelle:

Hey-- FYI... Got a flight out to see her... Next fri the 7th.  Hope she starts snapping out of it.  The nurse said her respiratory sounded a bit better today--otherwise the same.

So, it sounds like she's maybe winning the battle ..   (?)

Thanks for the thumbs up on your friend Judy.   Have you spoken to her doctors Paul???  Seems like she should have woke up by now.   Hmmmm....not familiar with this type of surgery.   My Dad had a tumor on his brain and had it removed with I was younger.   I do remember that when they do brain surgery on someone....they are usually NEVER the same as before surgery.   I know my Dad was definately different.   Keeping Judy in my prayers.

Hugs and blessings ~~~ Vivian

Hi VP, Nina and everyone ..   Got a little more detailed version of the update in awhile ago:

Thank you for all of your prayers and concern.  Aunt Judy remains stable, but us still not fully awake from last weeks surgery.  Yesterday the nurse told me that her respiratory was sounding a little better, so that's a good sign.  Also good is that a couple days ago they did a ct scan which indicated that those unwanted fluids in her head have decreased a little.  She is still responding to light and is squeezing fingers on command. This remains to be a "waiting game."
I finally got a flight out to San Antonio next Friday night, and I pray deeply that she makes much needed improvement by then, and hope that she know I'm there. Unfortunately that's the soonest I could make the trip, and I will only be there for two days.
Your continued prayers and support are very much appreciated.

No, I haven't tried to talk to her docs.  They usually don't like to talk to non-family members about a patient unless they know for sure they have permission to, due to all the medical privacy concerns of late   (ugh   ).  Even then, I think Don was making a big commotion earlier when he was upset and frustrated over the situation, threatening to sue them if anything happened to Judy.   He may have mentioned my name to them during his rant, in which case I don't think they would exactly want to speak to me ..       (btw, I wonder how he is doing of late ..  no word from Michelle about him)

This is a good example yet again of why it is SO important to have a valid durable health care power of attorney (called "Directive to Physicians, Family & Other Surrogates" in Texas) executed beforehand by everyone, just in case something like this should ever happen to them ..   Don told me that neither Judy nor him ever did one (or a Living Will) ..
