Molina band revision to bypass
Dr. Robert Davis had recommened a revision for my Molina band to bypass to severe gastric reflux. I have had the band 6 yrs and lost 80 lbs and have kept it off. I have been suffering from reflux for 2 to 3 years. This isn't just a little heartburn. This happens when I am asleep and it wakes me up choking. I am anxious to see if my insurance will cover this since I am no longer considered obese. If anyone has any information about this I would love to hear from them.
hello,
Welcome and first, let me say im so sorry about your reflux. I know several who have revised from the Molida Band and NO it isnt a lil heartburn that OTC meds will fix. You are the only one i know (so to speak) that has managed to keep the weight off from the Molina band. Im really surprised. most have had band slippage etc and gained some if not all back.
Im sure there will be some folks to chime in for you, if not post again tomorrow morning or during the day.
good luck with your revision, we have had a few folks here that have revised from the VBG for the same issue

When I was born, I cried and the world rejoiced. Now i wanna live my life so that when I die, the world cries and I rejoice
Hey Liz,
I know that it is very rare to keep the weight off. I have worked so hard to keep it off as I didnt want to have another surgery in the future and i'm going to have to have another one after all. I'm ok with it though if it will fix my problem and maybe lose a little more weight. I could stand to lose 30 more lbs so maybe that will actually happen in this process.
Nice to hear from you..

Im sure you will get the 30 off you want in no time once you get youre revision. Seems like everyone that got the Molina band ended up with problems with it.
Hope you feel better soon!

I have not heard of the Molina band but I have had lapband since 2001. I know how horrendous the reflux is. I would wake up choking every night; had reflux cough where I could not speak two words without coughing for air, it was brutal. I had the band replaced in February of this year. Now I have dilated esophagus (no reflux though) and they want to do an RNY which I am expecting insurance approval this week. It's been a long journey but it is what it is.
Let me know how you make out. I would expect that your insurance would approve the surgery since it is a medical necessity, regardless of your BMI.
Good luck.
