Trying to help a friend at work........
One of the guys at work had RNY 4 years ago when his wife had it. They have since split up and he is not taking care of himself. No vitamins. No follow up. I fussed at him back in October when he was complaining of being "tired all the time".
Well, after Debra's situation I changed my tune. I ran into him today and he was commenting on how well I had done with my surgery. I thanked him and changed the subject to HIM and his lack of care. I didn't fuss this time - I *****ED and told him about permanent nerve damage and memory loss. He admitted his joints were hurting and he wasn't taking any calcium (or anything else). I stressed the PERMANENT and NOT REVERSIBLE points of what he was doing.
His excuse was he didn't think his surgeon was on our insurance plan. I told him not to worry - I had just the PCP for him to go see - Dr. Weinstein - who would order his blood work and go over it with him and come up with a vitamin regime for him - and he was on our insurance !
So, tomorrow I will be emailing him Dr. Weinstein's phone number and address so he can call and make an appointment. And then I will put a reminder on my calendar to HUNT HIM DOWN the next time he is on days and give him my sternest "mother" look to make sure he has done it.
Now I feel like Old Mother Hubbard LOL

I agree. You're being a good friend, even if he doesn't appreciate it right now.

Dr. W is the best! I am so grateful to have found such wonderful doctors in my life - Garth Davis, John LoMonaco, Amer Al-Karadsheh, and Adam Weinstein! Now, if I could just find a good gynocologist who is willing to take on a post-menopausal old lady - they mostly want baby-makers for patients.

Sarah....good for you. Sometimes people mean welll but don't always make the best decision for their health in the long run. I have several WL friends also who don't take their vitamins on a regular basis. I am ALWAYS on them to do what is required of them. Afterall...we DID have WLS to improve our heath....not to ruin it !!!! You go girl and keep after him.....he should be so thankful that you are HIS friend !!!

GOD GRANT ME THE SERENITY TO ACCEPT THE THINGS I CAN NOT CHANGE; COURAGE TO CHANGE THE THINGS THAT I CAN; AND THE WISDOM TO KNOW THE DIFFERENCE !!!! THIS IS MY DAILY PRAYER.
