OT---AT&T vs Verizon

I currently have Verizon Wireless, have used them for years and never had any problems. Not only is the coverage excellent but dealing with the company itself has been painless. BUT I want an iPhone and around here AT&T is the only carrier that accepts them. I have a friend who has one with AT&T and her coverage is about the same as mine, we can both get coverage in the East Tx piney woods when our other sisters with T-Mobile can't. So I'm hoping the change would be painless!

If anyone uses AT&T can you tell me about them? How's your coverage? Customer service and support? Also....how do you feel about your iPhone?

Please tell me if I'm going to make a mistake!  haha

Suposedly there's a $30 chip you can get for the iphone that will allow you to use it with any carrier...might want to google that before you go leaving the great Verizon coverage(I have them too and I'm the only one I know who doesn't drop calls).

Well.....there is a chip out there, sorta. It's all a bit too techy for me to understand, I didn't see anything mentioned about Verizon or the specific 3Gs model. It all sounds a little shady to me!

I had AT&T and but changed to Veriszon to get better coverage, and better service, which is what I got.

Thanks for the info, Paul, but I really don't want to get into all that techno work around. Ebay prices for unlocked phones are going for $700-800. Besides, as I mentioned, it just all sounds a little sleazy to me. If I decide on the iPhone, I'll make the change and accept anything that goes with it.

I cannot be techie, but I love my iPhone.  I have never had a problem with AT&T.  I left Verizon for AT&T probably 8 years ago.

I did buy extended protection for our phones, but buyer beware.  The iPhone has a glass face and there is not a warranty out there that covers it if the glass breaks.  If the glass breaks, it is all over and you are buying a new phone.

That being said, I carry a computer with me where ever I go.  I love it.

You know....I considered getting one of the iPod Touch because from what I can tell it's the iPhone without the phone part, that way I could keep Verizon. The only problem is it's computer access is via wireless internet so I'd always have to be near a wireless source. I don't want to be that restricted, I want internet access anytime I need it. Plus, I'd just be trading the Palm Pilot for the iPod....I'd still be carrying a seperate phone. Thanks for the reminder about the glass face. I used to protecting a face, my Palm Pilot has a tender one, too.

I got the Iphone 3Gs and LOVE IT!!!!!! LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT!!!! AT&T is fine. Service is going to be service no matter what. It isn't always the carrier, but the towers around town. No towers, no service.

THAT's what I want to hear!!  LOL!
