So I have been working out alot lately and decided to take this excercise class at the gym lastnight. I am not sure what it is called but you work out using these little stackable platforms that you step up and down on and weights. The class was an hour long and I should have realized that this was going to be hell when during the first 5 minutes I thought I was going to die and that was just the warm up...and it only got worse from there. I didn't want to look like a wimp so I stayed and did the whole class which consisted of lots of weight training and jumping up and down on that platform. By the end of the class I was soaked because I was sweating so much. This morning I woke up and I could barely walk. When I got to work I weighed myself and I hadn't weighed myself since in like 3 days, well.....I lost 5 lbs!!! I was so excited that I said to hell with the soreness I am going to do that class again next week....lol.

They offer this class at 24 hour fitness, have any of you ever taken this class and did it get easier the more you did it? I have always been the type of person who likes to run on the treadmill or  move around the gym at my own pace on different machines. What has worked for you? Do you feel like you get better results taking spin classes, kick boxing, aerobics, etc. or using the machines?

Thanks Viv!!! I am trying, I was at a stall and was kinda bumming out and then I realized I have come too far to quit now and I have been on the ball ever since! Lastnight when I was in the shower I should have known that I was going to be really sore because I could barely lift my arms to wash my hair and it hadn't even been an hour since the workout. It's amazing how great you feel once you get back in the swing of working out because I feel awesome! I am the worst when it comes to being motivated about the gym but once I get there I don't want to leave.

You are looking great yourself!!! It's amazing to see the difference in all of us!

ummm....  the last time I did one of these classes was at Bally's and it was 15 years ago when I was in my mid-30's........ and it nearly KILLED me LOL.  But it does get easier once you build up those muscles you aren't used to using.  It's been so long Bally's may have been President and First Lady's at the time.

I have a 24-hr fitness membership but haven't tried any of the classes - just use the weights and machines.

You look FANTASTIC, btw!

Hi Erica,

Good for you for sticking with it and finishing the class! I suggest you try several different classes. I tried a few and found my passion---spin classes! I do five classes a week when my schedule allows---I'm totally addicted!!! Get bummed when I have to miss!  That's a huge thing for this former couch potato!

Probably the best bet is to do a combination of cardio and weight/strength training. The cardio will burn calories, the weights will build muscle, which will rev up your metabolism. So I do 3-5 spin classes a week and strength/weight training twice a week.

Good for you for trying something new!!!

I LOVE the type of step class you took and yes it does get easyer -but my knees will not hold up (gee think 30 yrs of hauling a couple of hundred extra pounds around was bad for them LOL)

I can do spin - that burns as many or more calories -

with both step and spin - you get what you put into it - if you push as hard as you can AND still finish the class you will burn a lot more than if you just do enuogh

try a few other typs of classes and something should fit - remember do whatever you do with full intnsity - step a bit higher, streach a bit rather, peddle a bit harder, hold that pose a half min longer -

I suggest ya try spinning and whatever kickboxing class they have!

Most have a "free dance" or "hip hop" class. and at first, you'll be scared that you'll look stupid.. but basically it's many, many, many other rhythmically challenged women in there too.. and they're so fun!
