May be moving to Austin...
My husband and I may be moving to the Austin area. We're from Michigan and don't know TEXAS very well. We've lived in the Corpus area for 1 yr and our company may move us up there... We have two small children, one in 2nd grade and the other in daycare. Anyone know of good neighbor hoods to check in on?
Intrests:
Schools K-12
Daycare/ Preschool Programs for 3 yr. olds
Rentable Home Properties
Anyone know of anyplace. Please let me know... Thanks!!
AUSTIN IS AWESOME!!!!!! Great for young families!!!!
You might want to check out the North end of town - Round Rock - Georgetown area. I'm not from Austin - two of my kids do or have lived there. I think you will be AMAZED as the cost of housing - very low compared to other areas of the country. Since you've lived in Corpus - you already have an idea of the climate - although Austin is MUCH less humid - very mild in the winter.
I live in Arlington - between Dallas and Fort Worth - although I like it here - I would move to the Austin area in a minute!!!!
Good luck in your search........

South Austin is awesome, but more expensive. Round Rock has better schools overall IMHO (of course I teach for Round Rock!). But I know many Austin teachers who would agree with me. Unless you are in a "priviledged" neighborhood that is, then the Austin school is great lol. Round Rock works for us because housing is affordable and schools are good. We are close to Austin so we can enjoy all it has to offer conveniently. As opposed to Austin, east RR is just as good as west now days. They are building a new high school on the east side near the better neighborhoods, so that evens things out a bit. If I didn't have 2 small kids, I would definately explore South Austin though...but North Austin seems a waste. If you are gonna miss out on south Austin being north, might as well go Round Rock and live cheaper! That's my 2 cents:)
Oh and my entire family lives in Michigan except my parents and me...quite a difference this time of year huh? They are having 60 degree days while we had 105 for a week!

I grew up in MI and moved to San Antonio almost 8 years ago. I'm in Austin a few times a month and traffic is easier on the south side, but you're really going to want to live near wherever you'll be officing to minimize on the commute.
We're currently in the process of relocating again and have had really great luck finding rental homes on realtor.com.
