More water+more protein+less carbs=???

Okay...back on track and an admission....I am weighing 154 in the morning now up from 150...This 5 lbs literally snuck up on me after holding 150-152 in the morn for a LLLOOONNNGGG time--like 2 years. I had not been following the "rules" actually for quite awhile...although not ever going completely back to all of the old habits. Just not drinking enough water, getting enough protein, and indulging too many carbs and diet cokes. I know this does not seem like much and there are plenty of peeps here that wish they could see 150...but to me it means the time to get back down to business. I am taking one day at a time and I am cutting WAY back on the diet coke...drinking WAY more water again (yesterday was about 75 + oz) Eating less carbs and more protein. Now to work on the exercise again. I am getting flabby and my body is changing shape and I just don't like it anymore!
I guess I am not really asking for any advice here...(although feel free to give it) just wanting to out it out there for accountability.
ALSO...to send the newbies and preops a message. The journey to where you want to be does NOT stay easy. I lost from 250-142 in 10 months before my pregnancy. (miracle baby) Gained 30 lbs during preg. Got right back to 159 and it took 6 months to a year to get to 150. My goal weight of 125 -130 has never been acheived. These few lbs I have gained literally APPEARED in 2 weeks...out of nowhere! And they are NOT going away easily! I had gotten lazy with my habits for awhile but had not changed anything recently. Just BE careful...don't let the old habits sneak back in...it is JUST NOT WORTH IT! Not trying to lecture her...and I am VERY blessed and happy that I HAVE been able to stay at a much healthier weight for over 5 years...but there is NOT an end of the road here. It is for a life time. Get in touch with the reasons why you eat NOW before you get too far into the process...it can easily come back to haunt you when the journey changes on you. Anyway...sorry this is long and I hope someone gets something from it besides me...Thanks OH for always beoing here...even when I am not a regular poster I am a regular reader and prayer....

update:
SOOOOOO grateful for all of the replies and I am tired and just can't muster up the energy to reply to everyone...but WILL be spemding time in the morning to do just that. I think this post will be a BIG motivator for me....

Thanks for the great advice!  I gave up diet cokes last month so that I didn't have that battle come surgery time. It's hard!! So I feel your pain there!

July,

Thanks for the advice.  I am 6 weeks post-op, and really appreciate any advice I hear from veterans like you.  I am already struggling with not getting in enough fluids and protein.  I am sure you will do fine.  You sound committed and determined to get back on track.  Good luck to you.

Take care,

We Can Do Hard Things

July, I'm glad you posted.  I'm struggling right now with choices also and weight gain and it just is not coming off.  I know I can do better (much better) with choices and such but haven't been able to reign in the carb monster.  My water intake is definitely not there either and really I believe tha****er intake is one of the most important parts because hey when we are drinking water we aren't eating nor looking to eat because the real full feeling isn't making us look for the satisfaction of food.

Just know you aren't alone, I'm going to be buckling down more over the weekend and next week.  I know this is the old diet mentality but I do better when I start a program on Monday.  I'm going to do liquids only (100 grams of protein shakes) for 2 days then back to lean meats and green leafy veggies, which got me to goal in the first place.

Hugs,

July!!!

This really helped me as a pre-op! I am getting ready to have surgery on Monday and it just helped me so much when someone brought in a HUGE cupcake cake for someone who just graduated college.... I'm on the liquid phase for pre-op this week, so I knew it was a no no, but then I started getting cravings for other bad stuff... I sat back and thought to myself about surgery and how this was all worth it, but as a pre-op it helps to be reminded that this is life long.

I am really ready for this surgery and your post just reminded me how hard it is to get back on track once you get off. Especially with the sodas!!!! And working out. It is so easy to NOT do the right things, and I just know that as long as I keep my current mind, obviously treating myself every now and again, and keeping up with my protein and vitamins, and my workouts, then I will be GREAT!!!!

July, why is it that the simple things make all the difference.  I have been saying for years that Diet Coke leads to carb cravings and FINALLY research backs me up.  Have you ever met a fat person that DIDN'T drink Diet Coke, Diet Pepsi or Diet Dr Pepper?  It's TRUE, the majority of the overweight people I know drank diet drinks.  So what am I doing right now?  Drinking a Diet Coke...(hit me over the head with that perverbial hammer).  I KNOW this leads to weight gain so why is it so darn hard?  I gave them up for over a year and slowly started back.  For some crazy reason nothing tastes good to me in the winter months except Diet Coke.  In the summer I can drink my SF Blackberry lemonade or bottled water by the gallon but not unless it's hot outside.  So needless to say, I need summer to get here quick.  Lucky for me, I'm still in MY 5 lb range BUT it could happen to me just as easily.

I'm hoping this conference will re-motivate me.  Weight-wise I'm OK where I am but I know I NEED to make better food choices a lot of the time.  Thanks for posting... you, me, Dana, we're all in the same boat so we can be here for each other.

Well - Thank you so much for writing this...................
I too am struggling..almost like.......well - I don't know what has gotten into me.......lately......
Just eating everything that I know I shouldn't .........I have NOT resorted back to cokes, pop or anything carbonated.............I'm still on GREEN tea from Starbux.........and that works for me for my fluids...even though I feel guilty because it is NOT caffeine free................another rule broken.

ONe of my team leaders saw me eating Chips yesterday and well  - his comment was:

Are you cheating?   That hit me........I didn't think of it that way.......I've been eating pot chips since Last Nov.........off and on - more on than off..........I don't buy them for home - when I'm at home....I don't break rules.......I don't have the things at home to get me off track............but at work.....my hands have to be busy........

Anyway:  Back to the comment of me "cheating"     He asked me "WHY?"  Stressing that word and well -  I don't know WHY...........he continued on to say - I'VE BEEN DOING SO GOOD.....MAINTAINING AND NOT RE-GAINING............, ETC.   -   .........I thanked him for his support and continue to watch out for me because I needed the accountability...........NOw - to make a long story short.......that just shows..........that I do have people watching out for me....

I am NOT going to fail this...............I am NOT going to fail.................
Now - if I'll ever get to my goal of 150   (I'm at 200 for months now).........that remains to be seen - but at the rate that I've been going........PROBABLY NOT.............but I have no one to blame but myself.................

BTW......TODAY WAS  A MUCH BETTER EATING DAY FOR ME.......NOT PERFECT....but......oh well.

thanks again July !!   ((((((((huggsss)))))))))))

July the same thing is goign on with me.  I stayed at 147-149 in the mornings for the last 6-8 months.  This week it has been 151-152.  Like you although it doesn't sound like much I don't want it going any higher.   I am really trying to watch the carb intake.  I don't drink sodas at all but I love crackers.LOL
