AAWWW thanks Karla!! I can't wait to be there!!

I will be sure to get out and get a tape measure this weekend because I don't have one. Do I just get one from like the fabric section at walmart??? I know this might be a dumb question, but I have totally avoided measurements all my life!! In fact, I'm not sure I've ever taken them!!!

Walmart is a great place to get one.  It's in the crafts/fabric section.  Take bust (at fullest part), waist, hips (9" down from waist), thighs, calves, and around upper arm at widest part.

You'll be glad you did this later on.

You won't need much in the hospital and it looks like you have everything on your list you will need.

As for the protein - even the unflavored may be a problem after surgery.  I know my sense of taste was very heightened after surgery and I could taste the whey in everything - even unflavored mixed in mashed potatoes.  Like others said - best to buy smaller containers in case some of it makes you gag.  And if it does just save it for later - it may not after a few weeks (or months).

Also, if you find the crystal light too strong, just dilute it more.  My tatse buds finaly got back to normal after a few months but early one everything tasted too salty, too strong, too everything.

Definitely take your measurements!  I took mine every Sunday for the first 6 months and I was amazed.  It always puzzled me how the weeks I lost pounds I didn't lose as many inches and the weeks I lost the most inches I didn't lose many pounds.  It makes no sense but it happens!

Also, if you have any freckles or moles pick one out on your thigh and arm so you are measuring at the same place every time.  Sounds silly, but it isn't as easy to find the same spot like it is on your waist or bust.

Good luck - I am excited for you - you will do GREAT!

I can't believe it is just about time for you to join us on the losers bench!!!!  Don't over pack for the hospital.  I promise you that you won't be there long.LOL  Islept most of the time I was in the hospital.  I would wake up, walk and ask for pain medicine.  I never had pain because I never allowed myself to hurt.  I did the same thing when I got home.  I took the pain meds and nausea meds around the clock for the first 24 hours I was home and that allowed me to sleep and rest and I never had pain.  I got uncomfortable at times but never hurt.

As far as at the hospital just remember to take something loose to wear home.  You will not want anything tight around your waist.  You might be swollen up still so make it something stretchy.  If you still have a period take some feminine products because they didn't tell me it was normal to start after surgery.  I was 10 days early and freaked because I thought something was wrong.  The nurse reassured me it was very normal.

As far as protein drinks I used the premade Isopure in the bottle.  There were 42 g of protein in each bottle.  I would make sure I got down at least one bottle a day that first week.  The first few days it was hard.  By having it premixed I didnt' have to worry about mixing anything.  I kept it in the refrigerator and only pour small amounts at at time.  I bought a small measuring glass from walmart.  It was 5 oz.  You could also drink it from a shot glass if you have one.  I would sip on that and walk.  I knew I could handle a glass at a time.  Plus when it is cold it tastes better.  I bought the blue flavor it was pretty good.  Before I would know it the whole bottle would be gone.  I also would have 4-5 popciscles a day.  My mouth would be so dry and that was the one thing that really helped.

You are going to do just GREAT!!!!  If you need me just let me know.

Thanks so much Teena!! You have been here for me every step of the way!!!

You REALLY don't know how much that means to me!! I'm sure I will be calling on you for many things!!!!!!

The hospital hasn't called me yet for pre-op, which is bugging me because I'm such a planner!!! I wish they would hurry and call me already!!!

I had my surgery at Renissance in Dallas (which is now shut down).  They were going to do my preop the morning of surgery and I just asked them if I could come earlier so that my dad and I would know where to go.  They were fine with that.  I knew the morning of surgery I wouldn't be in the right frame of mind to be asking any questions and I knew there were things I would want to know.  That was such a good hospital.  My room was huge.  There was a leather couch and chair in their.  I had so much room.  But the funny thing is I was one of the smaller patients that day so at first they put me in a small room right behind the nurses station.  There was barely room to get around the bed.LOL  So once I was able to go to a regular room I didn't know just how good it was.

Oh ok!! that's cool then. I guess I will just be waiting on their call. I will be off next Friday as well, so maybe I could go in that day to do the pre-op, and then surgery the following Monday!!

WWWHHHOOO!!! I'm so excited!!

Yeah congrats!!!  Very soon indeed!

Let me add a couple of suggestion that were priceless to me!!!

1) Fan-that clipped onto the bed rail-I'm a really hot person and really needed this.

2) Salad Tongs - in case you're too sore to reach there

3) Netti Pot and Saline packages if you have nose/allergy issues-and mine was compounded by my difficult airway and they intubated me through the nose and when I finally got my hands on my Nettie Pot I could get all that junk out of my head!!!!!!!!  Oh!  What a relief!!!!!!!!!!!!!
