Medicaid?
I am a resident of Gastonia, NC very near to Mecklenburg Co. I am in desperate need of a doctor that will except Medicaid for the gastric bypass surgery. I feel like I'm beating my head against a wall. Every doctor that I have talked to has stopped taking Medicaid or will be very soon. If any one knows of a doctor in or around Gaston, Mecklenburg Co. that will except Medicaid, your help would be greatly apreciated.

Tonya, I am scheduled for a an open RNY on June 27, 2003. I am on Medicaid and it went thru the first time it was submitted. As long as your surgeon and/or your PCP will show that it is needed for medical reasons theywill not turn you down. I have Dr. Kenneth MacDonald in Greenville, NC. He is one o the best and was actually a student of the man that came up with this type of surgery. I live in Greensboro, NC but I will go the 165miles it takes to have him do my surgery.

Dear Tonya,
Hi, My name is Cindy ,and I live in Charlotte. I have been banging my head aginst a brick wall as well.I have Medicaid and a year and a half ago I was all set for surgey RNY with Dr Melkonian in Charlotte, Then I found out that I had cancer, {uterine} I am fine now, but then the doc said I would have to be cancer free for 1 year.So a year later I call to make an app. and they tell me that they no longer accept medicaid. Grrrrrr So I call Dr Volinger, his office tells me oh yes , we accept Medicaid. Sends me out a package . I mail it in and wait and wait and wait , I call and ask why no one has called me yet with an app. "Oh we have decided that we will not be taking Medicaid any more this year ! So then I find out about Dr Ronald Sing. The nurse says yes he takes Medicaid. Actully I had called many times over the years ,and he was not accepting any new patients. So I try to make an app and find out ,he is at the cut off point again. No new patients . So I search and search for a new doc. Taaaa Daaaaa I go to Dr Enochs in Cary/Raleigh this Friday ,June 27. I am really hoping to have the D.S. surgery instead of the RNY. They are both good surgeries. But for me I think the DS would be best.I hope he will do it. I hope you can get in with him too. Also I saw on here that Dr Ed Gonzalas accepts Medicaid, No he does not I spoke with him a few mo's ago and I wrote to him last week. He wrote back ,saying that Medicaid only pays him $900.00 for the surgery ,and therefore he can not accept. Best of luck ,Let me know what ya find out ! Cindy

Dr Leland Cook ( hickory NC) (828) 315-5577 Dr. Cook is my Doctor, i'm hoping to have the RNY (lap) in November if all goes well and the Lord is willing!Ask to speak to Joyce Vail shes his coordinator and will get you set right up. Theres also Dr paul Carter in Fayettville. i've lost his # however. Email me, I have a list of about 7 surgeons that accept medicaid from back before I found Dr Cook. I'll have to locate it though.
I truely appologize for not responding to your e-mail. At the time I was very frustrated about my situation and was on the verge of giving up. Thank you so much for your info. As of May 3, 2004 Dr. Leland Cook perormed my gastric by-pass. I still have questions about life after surgery. If you are still in Gastonia please e-mail me.
