Don't know if he is accepting new patients but our PCP is worth a shot. We are teaching him about post op treatment but you still have to ADVOCATE for yourself. His name is John H. Cooper at University Internal Medicine. (there are TWO Dr. John Cooper's here in town so be sure of the office.

As far as post-op nutrition...the vets are your BEST source. NOT the NUTS attached to doctor's offices.

Topic: stomach cramps
It has been awhile since i posted.  I had gastric bypass 11-2009 and everything was going good until around january this year.  at any given meal my stomach would cramp shortly after i ate.  at first it only lasted for a few minutes to about a half of an hour.  This would happen every couple of weeks.  In march it got really bad.  It cramped so bad that i could barely walk.  no matter what i did nothing helped.  this lasted about an hour or so and would haooen every couple of days.  i went to see my surgeon and he belives that it is an internal hernia.  i went for the ct scan and should "swirling" .  today i went for an ultrasound for my gall bladder and it was fine.  shortly after i ate lunch today it hurt so bad that i was on the floor in tears.  my boss took me to the emergency room but by the time we got there i was feeling better.  I am scheduled for exploratory surgery on may 1st so he can look to see if it is an internal hernia.....has anyone had this problem before?????

Topic: RE: No replies beforebut maybe this time.
Hi and thanks for the replies. I'm just a total wreck! If not one thing then another. I am really doing good with eating right, right amounts and keeping a log on foods, times and doing my sugar soon as I awake in the am, again before meals other than snacks and at bed time I am like most and just want it to go away ! Had enough health problems.
Do any of you know if there is a possible number of people with gastric bypass and doing the lap band and how the sugar problem has or has not effected them.
I'm only a week away for major surgery for a cystacele surgery and I'm really in a panic mood. Today I didn't go to church! I just didn't want any noise around me,period. I slept all day. I did get three blood checks in but I didn't eat. Long as I am laying down, I don't have to drain my bladder! I would love to be more active on here and maybe that will happen.
I do have fibromyalgia and I have groupls that I'm close to for years and I just don't get there as often either.  I'm really become a old selfish one there days. LOL
I'm just tired , worn out, and really not the happiest I'd like to be and the sugar thing has really throwed me for a loop.
I hope to hear from both your again. I do hope you will have some helpful hints to help me. One big thing for me is meals and what to fix so my family will eat the same, just more of it. I'm a country cook and some receipes I have found, I don't know what half the stuff is.
Blessings to all of you and Thanks for being my friend.

Topic: support groups in NWTN?
I am looking for a support group in the NWTN area. My surgeon is in Memphis, and although my office is there, I don't get down there as much anymore. Something closer would definitely help me out. I am just over 3 months out and even though I am not doing bad, I wish I was doing a smidge better. I think what I am lacking is the support. OH is a wonderfull support community, but support groups seem so much more personal.

Topic: RE: 4 years after Bypass Surgery
I still go back and forth with about 10 lbs. Once I gain the 10 , I panic and go back on the proten and no snacking.  I will be 3 years out in August but I still have BAD dumping when I eat the sugar and too much carbs, a blessing I guess. But when I get back on track with the protein and no snacking I am surprised  the 10 lbs. comes right off.  I can't seem to stay on track enough to lose past the 10 lbs.  I would like to lose 20-30 more. Snacking all day is my big downfall ....find myself snacking even when I am not hungry. That scares me cause that is how I got into weight trouble in the first place.  I guess a battle I will always fight.  Get back on track with protein and your water , you can do it!!  good luck ~shell

Topic: Help With Finding Help in Knoxville, TN
I had gastric bypass in late 2003. I ended up losing my insurance shortly after the surgery so never saw the doctor that performed it again. I am looking for a group that will help with fitness and nurtrition and a PCP that knows about and understands post opp treatment.
Let me know if any knows any info in Knoxville.

Great! I had Dr. Boyce and he is AWESOME! He also did my gallbladder removal and hernia repair. You won't be disappointed! They do have a $3000 program fee though that many insurance companies will not pay (mine included).

Be happy.
