Topic: RE: Dr. Hugh Houston
Dr. Houston has perfomed surgery on quite a few ladies from GA.  I won't pretend to speak for them, but from all their posts, I think they were pleased.  In fact, I think some of them tried to lure him to Atlanta.  That would start a TN/GA mini-war. LOL  If the GA peeps don't respond here soon, you may want to post on the GA board.

I really respect the man.  He is very skilled and has a pretty good sense of humor.  He cares about his patients as people.  He does the four major WLS (band, DS, RNY, and sleeve) and does all of them well.  Word of warning from a DS patient:  he does not easily agree to any request for a DS.  It has the most malabsorption and he wants to make sure his patients know the importance of post-op follow up and supplementation. If you are thinking of the DS, be sure you've done your research before you see him.  He'll want solid reasons from you and assurance that you understand the importance of post-op care.

Best wishes whatever you decide.

I have no answers for you about Tenncare but wanted to say hello and welcome to the board. I'm a former Memphian, so feel qualified. LOL I had the DS in Nashville with Dr. Hugh Houston on 4/6/10 and LOVE it, love Dr. H and his staff!

Are you looking into RnY bypass or Duodenal Switch? Please research both intensively before choosing one. I was unaware of the DS until I read about it on the main board.

Welcome again and good luck in your research.

Morning,
I live in  Al but work at Centennial Med Ctr.  where Dr Houston is. He has always had a good rep. around the hospital and the community. (I have asked around about thim). I could find no one to say anything bad about any of the md's in the office.

OK Dr. Hugh Houston, M.D.is in the running has a surgeon for DS.  My only problem is that he is out of state and I live in Georgia. A plus is that I believe he do surgery lap instead of open.  I was wondering how everyone experience was with this Dr.  Please tell me the good, the bad, problems if you had any.  Let me know if you were a out of state patient.  I want all of you to know that you are very helpful  in my planning to have a successful surgery to start my new life.

Yep it's true...after my visit with my PCP on Monday I will have completed (3) of my (6) month's visits. It is going pretty fast and I can hardly wait. I am looking at getting my approval papers sent in the 3 week of August. I am hoping to have my surgery September or October. I'm hanging in with things, been alot going on with the Parker's. Things are slowly coming into place, still have a few things to deal with but all in all we are doing good.
Hope everyone has a great weekend.

Cheryl

Topic: Great new recipe for protein shake (In my opinion!)
Hi all,

I've not posted in a while and thought that I needed to share.

I have noticed that I was starting to go back into bad habits with eating and carbs etc.  So I decide to the basics and do the 5 day pouch test.  I'm now on the 3rd day but so far so good.

I found a new protein shake that I made:

Syntha-6 Vanilla - 1 scoop
4oz of silken tofu
1-2 tablespoons of sugar free strawberry jam (or a couple of frozen strawberries)
about 8 oz of water.

I blended it up in a magic bullet.

Great!

Also another thing that is good is 1 hard boiled egg cut up with about 1/2 cup of low fat cottage cheese and a little salt and pepper.  This is a great breakfast.

Topic: new to tennessee board...info on tenncare would be great
hello all, my name is joyce... i am new to tenn and just wanted to stop in and say hi.  i am a 36 yr old mom of 4 and have been researching gastric bypass for about 5 yrs now.  i was living in nc for awhile and was 1 appt from getting my surgury and i dropped 30 lbs in a month and the doc told me that i could do it on my own.  little did he know though that i had a swollen lymphnode that had some sort of a "fungus" (i know YUCK) in it which is what was causing me to lose the weight.  anyhow here i am back to being big bulky and feeling completely unattractive and unlovable.  my kids and my husband tell me that i am pretty and such but i feel so BLAH all the time.  so here i am trying to find out who i can go to in the greater chattanooga/cleveland area for gastric bypass and who will take the local medicaid (tenncare?)... i dont have it yet but am hoping to be able to get it soon. and what is the criteria, the requirements here for someone with that insurance? any excessive amount of charting your weight or going through a family doc with pills and weight loss programs before they will start talking to you?  if anyone can give me a heads up on what i will be getting myself into it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Topic: RE: Dr. Boyce and Financing Options
I hope I get this finalized soon. Otherwise it could end up on a credit card. Of course, I think that's cheaper right now than a finance co.
