Topic: RE: Lunch Bunch - July 17th
I just now found this post. I usually lurk on the VSG board but I would love to come to the next lunch meeting. I am still preop but waiting now for a call to get my surgery date. I have attended a couple of meetings at Hendersonville Hospital but my surgery will be at Vanderbilt. I would really love to connect with some folks on this side of the river where I live.
Thanks

While I wasn't part of the original group in the back of the warehouse, I did come early on... and the lunch bunch provided wonderful support to me throughout my entire journey... I started attending the lunch bunches before I was ever approved for surgery! It used to be a very important part of my journey, that second Saturday at 1:00 wherever the local restaurant of choice would be...
But like Susan, I'm not as active here. I always wondered where people went... why did they not continue to post and be part of the support forum. I realize now, its because they are out living life!! The very reason they had surgery in the first place was to experience new things, to live, to do, to be! And now 4 yrs later... here we veterans are... busy, going on with our lives as it seemed that it was placed on hold for a few short years... we struggled to lose the weight, struggled to learn our new patterns of behavior... and we were somewhat in a ****oon state where weight loss was what we lived, breathed and NOT necessarily ate... LOL...
I think many of us still lurk here occasionally... we're just a personal message away....

Doing good. She had a hysterectomy on Thursday 7/15, and was cleaning house on Friday 7/16! Since she has lost all of her weight, she has become superwoman!

Thank you so much - both for the kind words and the help with avatars! I love the person I've become but I just have to take it one day at a time, sometimes one hour at a time.
How is Beth doing? Loving her new tummy?

I don't know a lot about VSG except that it's simply a restrictive procedure rather than malabsorptive - but, you have the option of completing a DS down the road since you'll already have the DS tummy (just not the 'switch').
Good luck to you - these next few months will fly by and these are my biggest recommendations for pre-ops:
- research, research, research (lifestyle, expenses, etc.)
- deal with food issues NOW cuz it sure doesn't get any easier postop
- surround yourself with positive people including support groups
- prepare to do what you're told. it may not always be easy but it will work!

Topic: RE: Pre op diet
Hi Kim,
I am the dietitian that you will be seeing during that class, and do not be scared, we will give you all the information you need to prepare for the pre-op diet during that time. Basically the diet consists of high protein, low carbohydrate liquids. We do allow you to supplement the diet with sugar free Jell-O, sugar free popsicles, and soup broth, but as I mentioned, we will explain all of this to you during that class time. Pre-op diets will vary dependent upon which program a person goes through, so just remember that when/if anyone else replies to your message.
Take care, and we will see you soon!
