Topic: RE: Lookin for some pre surgery buds in East Tenn
Hello ! I live in Kodak TN (Sevier County) and I"m in my 4th month of my 6th month requirement with United Healthcare.......I am using the group with Dr. Greg Mancini at UT med center, but I haven't heard much about that group on this site.....most people I've read use Dr. Boyce. If anyone has heard anything about Mancini's group any feedback would be appreciated !
I am still learning this site so forgive me, haven't put most of my info in yet.....but please add me as a "friend" on here and when I figure out how to add you I will do as well. Maybe we can all get together sometime in the next 6 months. That would be cool.
And, I know what you mean about not having support. My husband is so/ so about me having surgery, and we just moved down here 8 months ago from NJ and don't know a SOUL...don't have any family, so I feel truly alone. So glad to have this site to read everyone's responses, it offers me comfort.
I am 38 years old with two boys: 9 and 5. I'm definately dreading the whole hospital thing, and I"m a nurse ! LOL......but I look forward to using my tool to "get my groove back"...........
Take care and hang in there......!!! Cathy

Sher,
Take a deep breath, heck, take a couple. Remember, there are no bad foods, food is just food. We are the ones that hang our happiness, our fears, our anxieties, etc. on food. We ask a lot from food and if we're not careful, it gives us more than we asked for. Is there any way you can come to Dr. Livengood's group tomorrow night at the Center? I think it would help tremendously. It just so happens that the group is on Monday, but there is nothing magical about a Monday. You don't have to wait until Monday to start ANYthing, start now, tonight, drink your water, eat your protein, take a walk, plan your meals for tomorrow, make plans to attend support group tomorrow night at 6 PM at 2200 Murphy Ave. Go now and write it or enter it into your planner. Oh, and cut yourself some slack! You've admitted what's going on and now you're going to work on a plan.
You can do it!

Topic: Where did my will power go?
I recall being preop and swearing if my surgery is approved I will never eat this again... swearing once I have the surgery I will never eat this again.. swearing now I have had the surgery I will never eat this again.. Guess what I ate.. or eat... What happened? I am just over a year out and it started at the holidays last year. I blamed the holidays and swore after the holiday I would get back on track.. guess what, I haven't and now the holidays are quickly coming up again!! I want to be at my goal weight, but I haven't been able to say no to the bad foods! I BUY the bad foods! I eat the bad foods! I regret eating the bad foods! I dump and feel awful, but do it again. I over eat and hurt from feeling so stuffed, but I do it the next day again! Or even later that day! I have been under a lot of stress, but that's just an excuse to eat. I have been on pain meds for a bulging disc in my back and they do say they make you hungrier, but honestly I am always shoving something in my face so I am never hungry so that's just an excuse too. I get bored at work since business is slow and eat to pass the time (that's the really bad time for me). I would love to start attending meetings all the time, but between work, kids and location and lack of energy from poor eating and pain meds that make me tired I have made excuses for that too. Every Monday I say I will start fresh, do the 5 day pouch test (lately I have been feeling like I have a bottomless pit not a pouch) or do a liquid diet, but by Monday afternoon I have eaten something that is not allowed. How do I get back on track and stay there. I really want to! I feel so disappointed in myself that I haven't been saying NO! I do get in all my water, Vit's, calcium.
What do you do when you need to get back on the horse?
Thanks for all the advice.

Topic: RE: Whey Protein
I have used the GNC brand one and it tastes good and lots of protein. They will normally give you a sample of the chocolate. It is a little cheaper than some of the others. They also carry these great little shackers that have a metal wish type ball in it. It has been great for mixing my double milks and protein shakes and then I just drink it out of the bottle.

I attend a support at St. Francis 2nd Thursday of every month at 7pm (or 7:30). Also psychologist's support group at same place 1st and 3rd Tuesday of every month from 6:30pm-7:30 pm. All free sessions.

I use Jay Robb powder mixes from the Whole Food Market. You can buy single serving packets in different flavors to see which you like.
I have also heard about a brand at Wal-Mart and one at Costco that taste pretty good and have quite a few grams of protein per serving.

Topic: Loosing weight before surgery
Hello all, just wondering if you think it's a good ideal to go on a diet before the pre-op diet or not. I have started a semi liquid protien diet, and have had some good results, but I am scared that once I have the surgery I might burn out. I was also wondering if anyone out there started with only 100 lbs to loose, how hard/difficult was it and how long did it take to loose it...thanks to all

Any good restaurants close to that you suggest?
