Maria, I bet your a ball of emotions right now!! I'm not too far behind you. My surgeon's instructions are clear liquids only 2 days before surgery and nothing after midnight right before surgery. No bowel prep - thank goodness. I plan to have my house spic and span, all laundry done, etc. And I plan on keeping myself busy, spending time with my husband, and probably working. There is a Critter's Day event that weekend before surgery at the park I work at, so I'll be busy with that... definitely keep my mind off of surgery. I've already have my vitamins and supplements ordered. I've also purchased my protein supplement. It tastes horrible! Though I haven't bought any broth, sf jello or popsicles, etc. I'll probably wait closer to time for that stuff... give me something to do. I've made a list of things I plan to take with me to the hospital. Oh and I've read and re-read all the information my surgeon gave me and a book called WLS for Dummies. The night before I'm probably going to need something to definitely keep my mind off things so I'm going to rent some comedies. I know I won't sleep that night. I think I'm pretty prepared. I haven't written letters to love ones though. I don't think I can do that without probably getting cold feet and not have the surgery. I hope you get through the next couple of days sanely and go into surgery calm and relaxed. I'm hoping this for myself too hahaha! Good luck Maria!

Hi Maria, the best thing I can tell you to take with you as you won't be allowed to shower until the main drain tube comes out. Take a small fan. Rooms have a tendency to either be too hot or too cold, the fan drowns out the hall noise from the nurses. It also helps to fall asleep with a little air circulation. The only thing I took with me was my toiletries, mostly my own anti-bacteria liquid soap for my bed baths, dentures were at home, so I didn't have to take any of that, they supplied me with mouth wash, oh and my own deorderant. I didn't have a robe but they supplied me one for walking the halls. As for food, your taste buds will change after surgery, what you don't like now, you may like afterwards, and vice versa. I didn't get anything until I got out of the hospitals. I have SF jello and pudding, I recommend vegetable soup, not beef veg. Also chicken noodle soup, save the noodles as you can add more water to them same as the vegetable soup for another meal or two. Just don't eat the contents in the soup. Broth from Pinto Beans is great. Unflavored protein powder is great, then you can add it to your water, or soups. I found one at Rite Aid for $10.99 and each scoop is 22 grams of protein. I have bought flavored water, protein shakes, and now I can't stand them one bit. So I eat things like cottage cheese or mild chedder cheese that is high in protein. By only when needed, each week I find my taste buds changing. Just remember what may work for one person may not for another. But I found just drinking the broth from a can of chicken broth was horrible, and don't get your chicken soup from Dollar General, the broth looks too buttery for my taste. Take something to read, even if it's a magazine for the times you are restless and can't relax. Also take my prayers and thoughts with you. Love Kathy
