Two More Visits Left!!!!
Hey Everyone!!!
I thought I'd let you all know how my supervised diet is going so far. I visited with Liz and Dr. Hadi this morning at Vandy. I'm down 10 pds ( well 4 from my starting weight and then I lost the six that I gained last month
)
But I still thought that it was great because, come on now, it was just the holidays!!! I was low on iron my last visit, and I haven't been able to keep down the iron tablets ( the make me
) Can any of you recommend a way to get iron that won't be so hard on my stomach?
Anyway, they sent me to the lab to make sure I'm back ontrack with that. And after today I have two more visits left, one with Liz in Feb. and then in March I'll see Liz for the last night and have my summary visit with Dr. Hadi so he can recommend me for surgery!!! He told me today that he would like to see me loose another 8pds in the next two months
( 4 pds a month, I can so do that
)
Well I'll let you know what happens with my iron, I'm crossing my fingers that it's back to normal. Talk to you later.

Hi Jacqueline. Congrats on the weight loss so far. You only have 2 months left. That is great. I am sure it will go by fast fast fast! For iron, you can try sunflower seeds! Well sort of.
They are not high in calories and they have a lot of iron. Of course, they are addictive! So you are doing your 6 mth diet with Vandy?? I am doing mine with my PCP. Vandy did not mention that I could do that with them. In fact, when it came back for me to do that, they told me to go to my PCP for it. Oh well. I am fine with my PCP doing it. I go for my first months weigh in on Monday. And then I only have 5 to go - long long time. I am not sure I have lost any weight. I have been walking about 1.5 miles a day lately but I have not been eating as well as I could. No sweets but I have eaten lots of carbs. We shall see. I will talk to you later.

Jacqueline,
This is what worked for me. Eat lots and lots of greens - spinach, turnip greens, collards, etc. They are high in iron. (and low in calories) Kidney Beans are also high in iron but a bit starchy. Your iron skillet will add some iron to whatever you cook in it. Go to the local Shoney's and have their liver dinner. As liver goes, the one at Shoney's isn't bad. If you really hate the taste, use A-1 sauce.
Lean red meat are a good source too. Vitamin C helps the iron absorb (the supplements anyway) but what do you have to lose? (no pun intended) Drink juice. Not only will your iron levels come up but so will your energy levels.
I hope this helps.
