Dr. Wright did my open RNY in June of 2001. The first appt. he about scared me to death! He will let you know, in no uncertain terms, all the BAD things that could possibly happen! But, he has one of the lowest complication rates around. He is an excellent surgeon (he also does liver transplants, so I figure if he can do that, he can do an RNY!). I've lost about 200 pounds and have had NO complications from the surgery. I've never even been sick, not once! Dr. Wright does seem to grow a personality, AFTER the surgery is over!! But he is VERY good at what he does. I would go back to him in a heartbeat. I saw him for the 1st time in Feb. and had a surgery date soon after my insurance (BC/BS) approved me. I could have had surgery sooner, but I teach and wanted it done during the summer. Vanderbilt is a busy place, but Dr. Wright spent a lot of time with me, answering LOADS of questions. There is a support group that meets every Friday (I think at 11:30, it's been a while since I've gone), that was a lot of help for me. Any other questions, you can e-mail me: [email protected] Good luck, Cyndi

Missy, I had surgery with Dr. Wright last October. I saw him the first time in early July, went through insurance approval crap and was in surgey on October 19th. I think it more depends on how long it takes your insurance to allow the surgery. I called Lisa, Dr. Wright's secretary mid-end of September letting her know I was approved. It took the office about a week to get my approval letter and I was scheduled mid-October. As for the first meeting, it was more or less a physical type of appointment with lots of info relayed on both sides and then his declaration I was a prime candidate for the surgery. Good luck.
