I just need to vent...
Hello dear friends, I just needed to vent to someone and I know y'all are great listeners!
My DH just called me and woke me up at 5:45 am to tell me that we currently have 15 overdrafts on our checking account and more stuff is pending and some transactions havn't even shown up yet! We are currently in the hole by about $100 and that doesn't include bank overdraft fees yet!!! I don't know what we are going to do?!?!? My check gets direct deposited tomorrow (well actually tonight at midnight) and his on friday. He had been in charge of the budget (our agreement) but obviously did not have a handle on it becuz most of these charges were small debits of small amounts like $4, $5, $2, etc. I am hoping that our bank, I believe has a limit of 5 overdraft charges per day, which will still be pretty bad, but hopefully not as bad as it could be! I just don't know what to do to fix this. I mean, I am going to take over the budget for sure but now I have to find a way to get us out of this mess and still have our heads above water and be able to live for the next 2 weeks! DH and I just had a fight about this yesterday as I felt he was being irresponsible with the money and he assured me he had a handle on the budget?!?!? Now this happens and he calls and wakes me up at 5:45 am expecting me to comfort him because he was having a panic attack (so he says, I think he was just upset becuz he messed up). Well, of course I was upset , to say the least! Now he thinks I am not being supportive in his time of need! I don't know what's going to happen now, with our finances AND our relationship. Maybe this isn't the place to post such a message, it is of a somewhat personal nature and not about WLS at all, but I just needed to vent. Maybe some of you have been through similar cir****tances that could offer me a little advice. Please people, don't be too harsh on me... Well I am gonna go for now as DH should be home from work shortly and I am sure we will be busy trying to deal with this mess.
Thanks for listening and letting me vent.
Sincerely,
Tammy
HEY TAMMY,
LET YOUR CHECK COVER ALL BANK "ERRORS" AND FEED HIM MAC & CHEESE FOR 2 WEEKS....TELL HIM NOT TO COMPLAIN BECAUSE HE LET IT GET IN THAT MESS....TAKE OVER PAYING BILLS....GET HIS CHECK AUTO DEPOSIT...DON'T MAKE RASH DECISIONS ABOUT YOUR RELATIONSHIP...JUST TAKE A TIME OUT FROM MAJOR DISCUSSIONS..GO TO LIBRARY AND GET SOME BOOKS ON WLS AND READ ABOUT SOMETHING YOUR INTERESTED IN DURING THAT TIME...AS FOR AS SUPPORT GOES....HE SHOULD HAVE CAME TO YOU AFTER THE 1ST OVERDRAFT NOT THE 15TH ONE. SO TELL HIM TO BUY SOME PANTYHOSE IF HE WANTS SUPPORT NOW...TAKE OVER PAYING THEN IN A FEW MONTHS DO IT JOINTLY....HOPE THIS HELPS ...JANELLA
Thanks for your suggestions Janella. I am hoping and praying that we don't get anymore overdrafts. Apparently, all of these debits went through at the same time (maybe due to a holiday weekend, I dunno). I won't know until tomorrow (after my check is deposited) how much damage has been done. But I know I still have bills that need to be paid and have an automatic debit coming out tomorrow for my student loan payment. Ugh... Oh well, all I can do is pray about it now. But thanks again for your support.
Tammy
PS--Janella says: "TELL HIM TO BUY SOME PANTYHOSE IF HE WANTS SUPPORT NOW..."
LOL Janella, that was funny and made me smile.
Are the overdrafts due to checks or a check card? If a check card - I would take possession of it - many people have a hard time "budgeting" using check cards, credit cards, and sometimes checks - cash always works. My hubby and I each get a weekly allowance - if you want something - save your allowance...it has worked for over 8 years so far...we decided what "house" pays for (going out, food, some clothes, etc..) and what the "allowence" has to pay for - lunches, habit items (cigs, beer, etc), clothes (other than necessities), etc....saved a lot of and now we have a lot of
Hi Alice! Thanks for the suggestions. The overdrafts were from the check card. My DH and I have talked and he has decided to let me handle the budget from now on and we are going to stop using the check card. You had some good suggestions and I think I am going to try that! Plus, we are both going to get 2nd jobs for a little while to help catch up the bills. Oh well, just a lesson we needed to learn I guess. Thanks again.
