I would like to say Hi .......
I'm new here. My name is Leslie and I'm from TN. I'm scheduled for surgery next Tues March 8th. My surgeon is Dr. Spaw. Has anyone else had him as their doctor? I'm getting excited. I do have a question. What is the best thing to try and drink/eat after surgery? I believe I'm going to be on puree/clear food for 6-8 weeks. I hope all goes well.
Leslie
Hi Leslie,
I had Dr. Spaw and I think he is a great doctor. I think I was on clear liquids for one week and then moved on to mushies. I used to eat alot of the creamy soups but I also would puree chili or vegetable soup. I got tired of brothe and jello. Good luck with your surgery. Hope everything goes well for you.

Yay! Congrats! I hope you have a blessed and speedy recovery.
About protein? Just follow your doctors orders right out of surgery, then worry about the protein! Getting well is the most important thing. However, your doctor should of given you a list of good protein foods...
Here's a few I like...
Yogurt, make sure its light - Krogers makes a great one! 80 calories, 7 grams of protein.
Cottage cheese
Milk
Cheese
Eggs
Low Carb Slimfast
There's more, but this will help you in the beginning stages...
Hi Leslie and congrats on your upcoming rebirthday! I wish you a very successful surgery and speedy recovery. I am not familiar with Dr. Spaw but i'm sure others here are. Food wise the best thing you can do is follow your doctor/nutritionists instructions to the letter. Straying from what they advice can bite you in the butt lol. The first couple of weeks are so important because of the healing process. I know you'll miss food and thats the head hunger part. Stay strong and stick to your guns. Before you know it you'll be eating solid foods again. As for the protein, I reach my surgeons requirement easily every day with chicken. Yes, sometimes I feel like i'll sproud feathers and start pecking at the ground, but it has really done the trick. I'm just 9 months post op and have lost 110 lbs by diet alone. I'm only 6 lbs away from goal. I do not exercise. My surgeon said last week im proof you can do this with diet alone. I have no need to use protein shakes/drinks/bars. Chicken is the best choice because its high protein, low calorie and low fat. Beef has equal protein that chicken does but has almost double the calories and triple the fat. I do allow myself beef and pork once weekly just to have a little variety. Anywho, best of luck to you. You'll be in my prayers. God bless!

Hi Leslie, I'll be seeing my surgeon when you are having your surgery. I want to wish you much success and may everything go great with surgery and recovery. Have you checked out Bariatrics.com? They have a protein for $24, add 4 scoops to 64 ozs of water, the fuzzy naval tastes like tang. Plus there's your water content. Just sip on that all day. But I agree with everyone, listen to your Dr. and nutrionist when you get home. They know best. May God be with you. Kathy
