Had to have an EGD done today

I began hurting when I ate two days ago and yesterday everything I took by mouth, be it food or fluid, made my chest and then stomach hurt. I spoke with Dr. Wright's Nurse Practioner last night and they had me come in to be scoped today. I was really nervous as I'd never had it done but they knocked me out before hand so I just woke up in recovery with a sore throat. They dilated my esophagus a small bit and then I went up tp check in with Dr. Wright. I hit 319 today, which is 44.5lbs lost in 6.5 weeks, so I was happy with that. I still have my feeding tube in and Dr. Wright said we will pull it out in two weeks if everythig goes well. Kelly

Kathy, The feeding tube has been in since right after my surgery and will be almost 8 weeks by the time I go back to see Dr. Wright, but it's better safe than sorry. On a happier note, I was able to eat shrimp for supper tonite with no pain. So, I guess the EGD was worth it. Kelly

congrats on the weight loss kelly, I go for my 6 week check up wednesday of this week. I have been hovering around the 48 lb loss mark but it fluctuates up and down. of course thats on my crazy home scale and buck naked to boot so I dont think I am nearly that much down. I had hoped to be down arond 60Lbs by my 6 week check up but dont see that as a reality. I am a bit jealous that you can eat shrip .... seems like since surgery seafood is about the one thing that absolutely I can not handle. every time I try seafood it comes back up. I hope that passes eventually as I was an avid seafood lover before surgery. the one thing I can keep down without difficulty is red meat, which is absolutly the worst of the meats according to my research. I did well on small portions of pork chop, but when i tried some pulled pork it too came back on me. luckily milk and cheese dont bother me. I wonder if my eight loss is less because I mix my protein with 1% milk instead of water. I dont like the water mixtures , and I am sure my dietician the Protein Nazi will have a lot to say when I see her on Wednesday. I am still struggling to get in 64oz of water a day, the best I have done is about 40 on any given day, thats not counting the fluid from my protein shake or any other drinks like half cups of 1% milk or half cup of coffee. I dont feel in the least dehydrated and my legs have even begun to pick up some of their earlier swelling ( water retention) though not as severe mainly because I have been standing a lot lately. I feel healthy which I suppose is the best thing. Still no hunger not even head hunger. and no desire for sweets at all. before Surgery I codl down 2 gallons of sweet tea a day, or 3 liters of coke,( I do miss my carbonated coke) but made sweet tea with splenda about 3 weeks ago and it is still sitting in the fridge. sweet things just dont taste good anymore or my taste for them has just gone away. I keep tryign to find something to snack on just to keep my metabolism working , but often just forget completely about eating snacks, and when I do eat I am looking for high protein to fill in the gap from my shake. heres hoping your feeding tube will be gone soon as I know it bothers you. was surprised he did nto remove it when you were scoped as you mentioned earlier you were no longer using it. again keep up the good work and keep usposted on your progress. Joe
